TANGERANG – On March 1, 2022, the Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN) Informatics Study Program and UMN’s Continuing Education Department (CED) socialized the Certiport IT Specialist certification for UMN Informatics Study Program students via Zoom.
“Based on the regulation of Menristekdikti No. 44 of 2015, it is said that students need to take at least one competency certification accordingly. Regarding that, at the end of 2020, UMN issued the Rector’s Decree No. 361-XII-2020 regarding student certification obligations. It requires every UMN student to take certification according to their study program as a graduation requirement,” said Puji Rianasari, CED staff, and PIC for the IT Specialist certification.
Previously, UMN Informatics study program students were mandated to take the Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification. But, the MTA certification was replaced by the IT Specialist certification as they are a lot more updated and complete.
Yoshi Lumban Tobing, the representative of International Test Center (ITC) Indonesia explained that IT Specialist is a program from Certiport USA that targets participants categorized in entry-level.

“This program is intended for candidates that are looking for a job. So when UMN students graduate, this certificate can help show your competence when applying for jobs,” Yoshi explained.
Unlike the MTA certification, participants who passed the IT Specialist certification exam will receive a digital badge in their Linkedin account. Yoshi explained that the digital badge would automatically be shown in participants’ Linkedin accounts.
Certiport’s official site wrote, “each badge contains verifiable data that tells employers and admission committees what you did, who says you did it, and why it matters.”
IT Specialist has 14 different certifications:
– IT Specialist: Artificial Intelligence (to be updated)
– IT Specialist: Cloud Computing (to be updated)
– IT Specialist: Computational Thinking
– IT Specialist: Cybersecurity
– IT Specialist: Databases
– IT Specialist: Device Configuration and Management
– IT Specialist: HTML & CSS
– IT Specialist: HTML5 Application Development
– IT Specialist: Java
– IT Specialist: JavaScript
– IT Specialist: Networking
– IT Specialist: Network Security
– IT Specialist: Phyton
– IT Specialist: Software Development
Yoshi explained that this certification is valid for life, but this is just an entry-level certification. Certifications will be developed and updated according to international standards as time goes on. Participants can take other certification exams that are more professional-leveled in the future.

Especially for UMN students, they can take the IT Specialist certification exam for Rp. 400,000. The price includes a practice test where students can access various simulations of the IT Specialist exam 100 times. The exam simulation can help students find certifications that match their interests and increase students’ passing percentage when taking the certification exams.
