UCSI (dok.UMN)

TANGERANG – Global Office Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN), together with University College Sedaya International (UCSI University), held a sharing session virtually on Thursday (10/03/22). This session was led by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Lee Ming Tatt, the Director, Office of Postgraduate Studies, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

In this sharing session, Dr. Lee discussed the postgraduate study programs (Masters and doctoral programs) in UCSI for the fields of Business, Hospitality, Creative Art, Architecture, and Education. Dr. Lee and Regina Andhiwinata, Indonesia’s representative of UCSI, also shared UCSI’s scholarship opportunities for postgraduate students.

“We are delighted seeing students wanting to continue their studies after graduating from UMN,†Boby Arinto, Head of Global Office UMN, said, opening this session.

UMN and UCSI had worked together for a long time. In 2021, UCSI appointed Dr. Ninok Leksono M.A., the Chancellor of UMN as a Visiting Professor of Practice, contributing to the Faculty of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies (Liberal Arts). A few UMN lecturers are also currently continuing their studies at UCSI.

UCSI is one of the top universities in the world. Dr. Lee said that UCSI is one of Malaysia’s top private universities. UCSI is included in the 2022 QS Top 350 World University Rankings, currently ranked top 347 after climbing 44 spots.

UCSI Presentation (dok.UMN)

“In Asia, UCSI is ranked as the 77th best university in the QS Asia University Rankings 2022. We have leaped 135 spots since 2018,†Dr. Lee said.

UCSI’s study programs are also listed in the top lists in Malaysia and globally. In 2021, their Institute of Music places top 50 in the world, their Faculty of Business and Management places top 7 in Malaysia, their Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management places top 100 in the world, and their Petroleum Engineering program placing top 5 in Malaysia.

“UCSI also has outstanding supervisors. They are awarded several national and international research grants and have excellent publication records in high-impact indexed journals. UCSI supervisors also have many years of experience in teaching, researching, and supervising postgraduate students,†Dr. Lee said.

Regina then shared how students can get scholarships. It is first mandatory that the student applying for the scholarship graduate from a prestigious university. UCSI already acknowledges UMN as one of the best universities in Indonesia, so UMN graduates are more than welcome to apply for the scholarship program.

Secondly, for undergraduates pursuing a master’s degree, it’s required that the student earned a GPA of 3.3. For masters pursuing a doctorate degree, it’s required that the student earned a GPA of 3.5. But, to be fully eligible for the scholarship, students must maintain their GPA during the course of their study in UCSI.

“The kind of scholarship given is a discount on their course credit fee. The percentage of the discount also depends on every student, usually 10%-50%,†Regina explained.

When asked about the living cost in Malaysia, Regina shared that it shouldn’t be much different than the living cost in Indonesia. Of course, it all depends on the students’ lifestyles.

“750-1000 ringgit (Rp. 2,560,000 to Rp. 3,130,000) per-month should be enough. Since the dorm is inside the campus, students don’t have to worry about transportation fees. Just like UMN Campus, which budget-friendly restaurants surround, affordable meals nearby the UCSI campus are also available,†Regina shared.
