Universities need systematic, structured, and continuous measurements to ensure the quality of education. The better the college accreditation, the more enthusiasts there are, so the college is included in the category of favorite campuses.

AUN-QA is a university network organization that aims to strengthen and expand cooperation in the field of higher education among ASEAN countries. One of the agendas of this organization at the ASEAN level is to provide quality assurance assessment of study programs.

As a prospective new student, it is essential to pay attention to what kind of campus you will later choose. One of them is a campus that has received good accreditation. 

Then what is meant by AUN-QA accreditation? What are the criteria for a campus to get this accreditation? Let’s discuss it!

AUN-QA International Accreditation

AUN is an organization of university networks in ASEAN that strengthens higher education cooperation between ASEAN countries. The primary purpose of this organization is to strengthen and expand cooperation in the field of higher education between ASEAN countries.

Meanwhile, AUN Quality Assurance (AUN-QA), initiated in 1998, is one of the activities carried out by AUN, which aims to guarantee the quality of study programs that are members of AUN.

The Process of Applying for AUN-QA Certification

This certification is obtained by submitting a capable study program to AUN. Then, the study program prepares all the elements that the AUN QA assessor will assess, such as making an assessment report on the study program through the Self Assessment Report (SAR). After that, the AUN QA assessor team will directly check the condition of the study program as written in the SAR. The assessment is carried out independently (Self-Assessment) by writing a SAR (Self-Assessment Report).

There are 11 assessment criteria in this certification, namely:

Expected learning outcomes, program specification, program structure and content, teaching and learning approach, student assessment, academic staff quality, supporting staff quality, student quality and support, facilities and infrastructure, quality enhancement, and outputs.

Benefits of AUN-QA Certification for Higher Education

The benefit for universities whose study programs obtain AUN-QA certification is the equality of the quality of study programs at the university with quality study programs in ASEAN. 

In addition, students in AUN-QA-certified study programs can transfer credits to other universities that have been certified.

In addition, there are several benefits of AUN-QA for study programs:

• Opportunity to participate in the AUN-QA program.
• Added network among ASEAN Countries and involved in AUN-QA conferences.
• Opportunities to engage in AUN-QA workshops and training courses and share implementation experiences to improve the quality of higher education.

3 UMN Study Programs that are AUN-QA Certified

Three Study Programs (Prodi) of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN), namely the Management Study Program, Visual Communication Design Study Program, and Strategic Communication Study Program, have participated in the AUN-QA assessment process which took place on June 28 – July 2, 2021. The results have also come out with the title “adequate as expected.”

The assessment carried out on these 3 UMN study programs is the 220th assessment of all assessments carried out by AUN-QA for various campuses in the ASEAN region.

The assessment of UMN’s DKV Study Program is the second time that AUN-QA has assessed a similar study program or department from an Indonesian university.

That was the information about the AUN-QA international accreditation and its assessment indicators. Apart from the assessment by AUN-QA, there are already several study programs at UMN that are internationally recognized.

The study programs are UMN Physics Engineering and UMN Electrical Engineering, which were recognized by the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE) in 2020.

In addition, UMN‘s Faculty of Business has also joined EFMD Global as a member in 2021.
