So that UMN VCD students’ works can exist in music concerts – The flood of music concerts after the pandemic has made many people afraid to miss the hype– like the concerts of Coldplay, Charlie Puth, Suga BTS, and Honne. Various groups, regardless of age, are even willing to war tickets to watch their favorite idol concerts.
However, did you know that as a Visual Communication Design (VCD) student, you can not only be active as an audience? You can also be engaged in the industry and display your work at the music concert. Don’t believe it? Five UMN VCD students in 2019 managed to prove this.

Love Inspiration Concert and The Contribution of UMN VCD Students’ Work
On November 20, 2019, VCD UMN collaborated with YWMF (Yovie Widianto Music Factory) to create an identity and promotional design for the Love Inspiration Concert held in Bandung. This concert invited many of Indonesia’s top musicians, such as Tulus, Kahitna, and Raisa.
The collaboration between YWMF and VCD UMN is in the form of making visual promotional media for the Love Inspiration Concert. The promotional media include content for social media, posters, banners, and visual creation for the stage area. In this collaboration, there are 5 VCD students involved.

4 Basic Skills for Your Public Works to Stand Out
As a VCD student, you certainly want your work to be recognized by a broad audience. Not only at music concerts, but you can also make your public works stand out and be used in various media as long as you master these 4 basic skills. The four basic skills that a VCD student must have are as follows:
1. Able to communicate through aesthetic elements
As the name implies, in Visual Communication Design, of course, VCD students must be able to understand the art of conveying messages well through visual design media. As a VCD student, you learn about not only visual arts but also a combination of communication science and aesthetic elements.
That is why you also get a course on visual branding during college. This course will teach you how to interpret ideas or projects through visual works without discarding the elements of communication in its aesthetics.
2. Understand visual elements
VCD students must truly master this one point. You must understand colors, shapes, textures, letters, space, etc. It is through these elements that a VCD child’s work will be formed. These elements can be photos, videos, logos, illustrations, website designs, and music concert ticket designs.
3. Mastering design software
In today’s digital era, VCD students are also required to be able to keep up with the times by mastering design software. In addition, you are not only required to be able to create graphic designs in 2D, but by using design software, you must also be able to create videos and 3D works.
No wonder, nowadays, VCD students must master several applications for graphic design, such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, and so on.
4. Understand the basics of visual publications
You are not a VCD student if you don’t understand the basics of visual publications. By understanding the basics of visual publications, every work must have a message or meaning to be conveyed. Don’t let the work be meaningless.
Messages and meanings have a very important meaning for a work. The existence of a message that blends with creativity makes your work easier to understand and remember.
This will also be the hallmark of your work. Of course, the characteristics of a work will become a personal branding for you.
