COMNEWS 2021

TANGERANG – Faculty of Communication Sciences, Multimedia Nusantara University (FIKOM UMN) will hold an international conference entitled COMNEWS (Conference on Communication and New Media Studies) 2021 on October 5.

COMNEWS 2021 is intended as a forum between scientists and practitioners to study and share knowledge in facing the challenges of digital communication in the pandemic period. This was conveyed by UMN Rector Ninok Leksono when met in Jakarta (30/9).

“The challenges of digital communication in pandemic times will test the reliability of digital telecommunications infrastructure. Here can also be seen how far people can use the digital medium as effectively as possible. For example, for the sake of education in the broadest sense, as well as public literacy,” Ninok continued.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the COMNEWS 2021 Committee Angga Ariestya explained that the implementation of COMNEWS this year
Special, because it coincides with the condition of the Covid-19 pandemic that has an impact in various sectors of people’s lives.

“The Covid-19 pandemic cannot be predicted when it will be completed. In this state of uncertainty, we (FIKOM UMN) see the Covid-19 pandemic changing the way we communicate with each other, from first face to face to mediated. This raises new challenges in various sectors in society such as business, education, tourism, health to communication in the family,” explained Angga.

According to Angga, these challenges must be solved with digital communication that is increasingly widespread in the community. This is reviewed in COMNEWS 2021 so that we can survive in this era of uncertainty.

COMNEWS is a conference held every two years by FIKOM UMN since 2016. Entering the third implementation, COMNEWS 2021 raised the main theme “Digital Communication in an Era of Uncertainty”.

COMNEWS 2021 presented a number of speakers, including Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny Gerard Plate, Lecturer of The Australian National University Dr. Ross Tapsell, Dean of the College of Mass Communication University of the Philippines Prof. Arminda V. Santiago, Manager of The World Bank (1996-2003) and FAO Representative (2003-2005) Dr. Ronny Adhikarya, as well as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of KOMPAS Tri Agung Kristanto.

The international conference, supported by KOMPAS, Bank BTPN, WIKA, ASPIKOM, APJIKI, and ISKI, was held online and can be attended by students, academics and practitioners in the field of Communication.
