TANGERANG – On Thursday (04/06/26), Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) welcomed Maynooth University to its campus in Tangerang. The meeting aimed to introduce each other’s academic programs and explore potential future collaborations between the two institutions.
Maynooth University, located in County Kildare, Ireland, is the country’s second-oldest higher education institution, founded in 1795. Known for its strong research and teaching across the humanities, science, and engineering, it blends a historic campus with a modern, close-knit academic community just outside Dublin.
The meeting began with both universities presenting their programs, including student and faculty exchanges and existing partnerships with other universities, before identifying opportunities for joint initiatives between UMN and Maynooth University. A wide range of potential programs was discussed, including student exchanges, visiting professors, mobility programs, an undergraduate-to-master’s acceleration pathway, scholarships, and more.
Discussions went positively, with both sides expressing enthusiasm and a strong commitment to turning ideas into action. The Maynooth representative notably expressed interest in several proposals, signaling a promising foundation for future agreements.
With a focus on student benefits, the proposed collaborations are designed to enhance the academic experience. Students would gain access to world-class research facilities and teaching methods from Maynooth, a leading European university.
The undergraduate-to-master’s acceleration program, for instance, would allow high-achieving UMN students to fast-track their postgraduate studies abroad, giving them a competitive edge in the global job market. Additionally, visiting professors and guest lecture arrangements would expose students to diverse academic perspectives without necessarily leaving Indonesia.
Beyond academics, the partnership aims to deepen cultural exchange between Indonesia and Ireland. Programs such as semester-based mobility and the one-semester-plus-one-year master’s track would immerse UMN students in Irish culture, history, and society. In contrast, Irish faculty and students visiting UMN would experience Indonesian hospitality, arts, and traditions firsthand.
“We have a guest lecture arrangement where your professors can teach us online and vice versa, or a visiting professor where we invite your professors to come here for two weeks. Everything will be on us– flights, accommodation, and meals,” a UMN representative explained.
In addition to undergraduate programs, a collaboration between the two universities’ master’s programs was also explored. “We can do a one-semester plus one-year program where students can study at UMN for one semester, then study at Maynooth for one year. Students will receive a degree from your side, and UMN can issue students a certificate,” the UMN representative explained.
The idea was warmly welcomed by the Maynooth representative. “Yeah, this one is visible. We can talk with our board and map how it will be. You can also share the core structure of your MBA program.”
With the discussions having gone smoothly and both sides focusing on tangible outcomes, it is hoped that UMN and Maynooth University can soon establish a partnership that not only enriches student learning but also builds lasting people-to-people connections between Indonesia and Ireland.
