PPAr UMN Open Studio: A Complete Exploration of the Journey to Becoming a Professional Architect

Tangerang, (01/08/2026) – The Professional Architect Education Program (PPAr) at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) held the PPAr UMN Open Studio, which thoroughly explored the curriculum, learning experiences, and career prospects as a Professional Architect. All material was presented directly by alums and the Head of the PPAr UMN Study Program.

PPAr UMN is a professional education program that prepares architecture graduates to become Professional Architects. PPAr UMN not only helps students obtain professional architect legality but also equips students with practical experience and competencies that align with industry needs. A PPAr UMN alumna, Ar, conveyed this. Elysa Yuanita Simahendali, who currently works as an Architect at PT Summarecon Agung, Tbk. PDV 2 (Gading Serpong).

“Initially, I worked as an architectural designer, and as time went by, I wanted to become a legal architect recognized in Indonesia. With that desire, I decided to join PPAr UMN. I hoped that I could become more responsible and provide greater value and trust to the company where I would work,” Elysa explained.

Elysa also shared how she gained new knowledge that she had never learned before, including green building. For her, this learning is important given that the industry is currently moving toward sustainable development.

“In addition to learning about green building, I also took part in various learning activities, from site visits, designing housing, to studying budgeting, managing cost estimates, and finishing processes,” she added.

For Elysa, all the knowledge she gained became important capital to support her career. She also felt that the courses at PPAr UMN were aligned with her current work.

“Not only did I gain valuable new experience, but through PPAr UMN I also developed my skills, from time management, working in teams, dividing work, to building commitment,” Elysa concluded.

In addition to the alum learning experience presentation, this Open Studio was also enriched with an academic presentation on the curriculum delivered directly by the Head of the PPAr UMN Study Program, Ar. Irma Desiyana, S.Ars., M.Arch.

“PPAr UMN is certainly not just a continuing study program for the architecture profession. More than that, through PPAr, graduates will be legally recognized and have professional legality, given that the architecture profession intersects with many ministries and is regulated by a professional code of ethics,” Irma explained.

For Irma, obtaining the Architect Registration Certificate (STRA) after completing PPAr is one form of commitment as a professional architect. Not only that, with this legality, the scope of an architect’s work is not only recognized in Indonesia but can also open opportunities to work abroad.

“The main advantage of PPAr UMN learning is that it focuses on two main topics: Sustainability and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Sustainability equips students with an understanding of green buildings. At the same time, AI is an important skill given that technological developments will continue to be utilized by architects in the future,” Irma said.

Irma also emphasized that learning at PPAr UMN does not only require students to design buildings or projects. Students also gain practical training and direct learning from industry practitioners.
