TANGERANG – Three lecturers from Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) have been entrusted to hold positions on the national board of the Association of Visual Communication Design Study Programs of Indonesia (Asosiasi Program Studi Desain Komunikasi Visual Indonesia/ASPRODI DKV Indonesia) for the 2026-2030 period. This involvement is seen as creating opportunities for broader collaboration with various universities, industries, professional organizations, and the government to develop Visual Communication Design (VCD) education in Indonesia.
The inauguration of the ASPRODI DKV Indonesia board was conducted by the Chairperson of ASPRODI DKV Indonesia, Dr. Intan Rizky Mutiaz, M.Ds., together with the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Irene Umar, at the National Gathering & National Coordination Meeting of ASPRODI DKV Indonesia 2026 at Dian Nuswantoro University, Semarang, on May 21, 2026.
On this national board, UMN’s Visual Communication Design (DKV) Study Program lecturer, Mohammad Rizaldi, S.T., M.Ds., was appointed Vice Chairperson. Meanwhile, Dr. Sn. Yusup S. Martyastiadi, S.T., M.Inf.Tech. took on responsibilities in the Research Sub-division. From UMN’s Master of Design Program, Dr. Lala Palupi Santyaputri, S.Sn., M.Si. was entrusted as General Treasurer.
“For UMN, this is clearly a tangible form of national recognition of the competence and quality of UMN’s VCD Study Program and the trust in the role of UMN’s academic community, who can compete and be trusted by the public in their respective fields,” said Rizaldi, a UMN VCD lecturer who also previously served as Head of UMN’s VCD Study Program for the 2017-2022 period.
Through this national board, opportunities for inter-campus collaboration are expected to become increasingly open. ASPRODI DKV Indonesia has approximately 100 members of the DKV study program from various universities across Indonesia. Additionally, the association also collaborates with various professional organizations, industries, the government, and other relevant study program associations.
This extensive network has the potential to foster strategic collaborations across education, research, community service, and curriculum development that align with the creative industry’s needs. The presence of UMN lecturers in the national board can also strengthen the university’s position in various academic and professional forums in the design field.
Amid the increasingly dynamic development of the creative industry, cross-institutional collaboration has become an important factor in enhancing the quality of design education and creating a broader impact on society.

UMN DKV lecturer and Coordinator of the Research Sub-division of ASPRODI DKV Indonesia, Dr. Sn. Yusup S. Martyastiadi, S.T., M.Inf.Tech., delivering a presentation at the National Gathering & National Coordination Meeting of ASPRODI DKV Indonesia 2026 at Dian Nuswantoro University, Semarang, on May 21, 2026.
One of the contributions UMN can make through this national forum is in research. According to Rizaldi, UMN’s strength lies not only in its close connection to the development of the creative industry and digital technology but also in the quality of research possessed by its lecturers.
This is reflected in the trust given to Dr. Sn. Yusup S. Martyastiadi, S.T., M.Inf.Tech. to coordinate the Research Sub-division in the ASPRODI DKV Indonesia board. His track record and expertise are considered important assets in strengthening design research at the national level.
Strengthening research has become increasingly important amid efforts to enhance the competitiveness of VCD education in Indonesia, at both the national and international levels.
“Some of the best potential is in the field of research. One of UMN’s VCD lecturers coordinating the Research Sub-division in the VCD study program association is Dr. Sn. Yusup S. Martyastiadi, S.T., M.Inf.Tech. He has expertise and a track record in design research that is trusted for its role and quality by the government and related associations both nationally and internationally,” Rizaldi said.
Recognition of the competence of UMN’s academic community is also in line with the institution’s achievements in the field of arts and design. UMN’s Faculty of Arts and Design, which includes Visual Communication Design (VCD), Film & Animation, and Architecture, has achieved a QS World University Rankings by Subject: Art and Design position of 151–200 globally, third nationally, and first in the Jabodetabek region.
Furthermore, Rizaldi stated that UMN’s contribution to the development of arts and design education is not solely reflected in its rankings. Real impact on the community, public recognition of the academic community’s competence, and involvement in various professional and strategic roles are other important indicators.
He noted that these contributions can be realized through various avenues, including achievements, industry collaborations, research, internship programs, community service, and lecturers’ involvement as association board members, competition judges, or experts in various sectors.
“UMN’s contribution to the development of arts and design education at the national level will continue, remain wide open, and be sustainable. This should not only be seen through rankings and ratings but can be felt and have a real impact on society up to the national level through the role and public trust in the competence and excellence of UMN’s academic community in the field of arts and design, through achievements and awards from art and design works that compete both domestically and internationally,” Rizaldi explained.
Rizaldi also noted that the involvement of UMN lecturers in this national board can open various opportunities for students. One of them is through the expansion of academic and student networks at the regional and national levels.
Students have the opportunity to be involved in various collaborative activities, including student activities in the arts and design, student exchanges, inter-campus collaborative classes, and joint research with lecturers from various universities. These opportunities are expected to enrich students’ learning experiences while broadening their insights into the development of the design world.
In addition, stronger connectivity with various educational institutions and stakeholders can open new opportunities for students to develop competencies relevant to the future creative industry’s needs.
“Students will have a wide network through student activities in the field of arts and design at the national level, such as Ultigraph, KMDGI, or other relevant events. Then, there are academic collaboration activities between universities at the regional and national levels, and also the possibility of student exchanges or collaborative classes based on MoUs between universities, including the possibility of being involved in collaborative research with lecturers from other universities,” Rizaldi said.
Amid the rapid development of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), interactive media, and the digital creative industry, Rizaldi believes that the main challenge for DKV education does not lie in the technology itself. According to him, technological developments can actually strengthen the ecosystem and content of DKV education in Indonesia.
The more important challenge is how to build expertise through DKV research and works that are competitive and capable of making an impact on strengthening the national creative economy sub-sector. Recognition of research quality and expertise is believed to open opportunities for broader international recognition and collaboration.

Mohammad Rizaldi, S.T., M.Ds., who was entrusted to serve as Vice Chairperson of ASPRODI DKV Indonesia, delivering a presentation at the National Gathering & National Coordination Meeting of ASPRODI DKV Indonesia 2026 at Dian Nuswantoro University, Semarang, on May 21, 2026.
In his role as Vice Chairperson of ASPRODI DKV Indonesia, Rizaldi, together with his fellow lecturers, aims to foster an ecosystem that produces VCD scientific expertise recognized both nationally and internationally.
“Our contribution in addressing these challenges is through our roles in the national board, in accordance with the mandate from the Chairperson. One of them is to build an ecosystem and encourage the emergence of VCD scientific expertise recognized nationally and internationally by formulating a strategic, collaborative, and impactful VCD Indonesia research umbrella corridor,” Rizaldi explained.
Rizaldi, who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Arts and Design at the Faculty of Art and Design, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, hopes that ASPRODI DKV Indonesia can play an increasingly significant role in improving the quality of VCD education in Indonesia.
“The main hope is that the association of VCD study programs in Indonesia will have a significant role in accelerating the improvement of VCD education quality in Indonesia to become excellent and impactful in supporting the real contribution of VCD’s role in society as one of the creative economy sub-sectors in Indonesia,” concluded Rizaldi.
