“I am delighted and proud to see various international universities coming together—not just gathering, but also forging progressive collaborations. For me, the involvement of these universities demonstrates their collaborative spirit and commitment to supporting sustainability. As we know, sustainable development goals certainly cannot be completed by 2035, but seeing the enthusiasm from each of these universities is proof that educational involvement has a significant impact,” Julie McMahon, Vice President for Asia-Pacific (APAC) of Times Higher Education, said
Julie observed how universities in Indonesia, including UMN, implement sustainability within the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the pillar of Community Service. This commitment demonstrates that universities in Indonesia are making a positive impact, especially in improving the lives of people at all levels of society.
“Of course, future challenges will be greater and broader, but we can see how far we have come to this point. I hope that through this event, each university can further strengthen collaborations in sustainability programs, research, and their implementation in education,” Julie concluded.
In response, UMN’s Rector, Dr. Andrey Andoko, also expressed his appreciation and pride in each university’s involvement at the Networking Night of GSCF 2026. For him, universities not only serve as educators but also generate innovation and strategic ideas in supporting sustainability.

“The involvement of universities plays an important role in contributing to sustainability, particularly in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UMN continues to encourage and equip students with sustainability values, whether through research, curriculum, or student activities,” Andrey emphasized.
For Andrey, equipping students with sustainability values is important to prepare graduates who are socially and environmentally conscious. Furthermore, by implementing sustainability, students are expected to continuously hone their problem-solving abilities and global thinking skills.
“I hope that through this event, UMN can collaborate even more with global university partners. Through this collaboration, it is expected that UMN can equip students and lecturers with more global knowledge and the ability to solve more global problems,” he added.
On this occasion, UMN also formally established collaborations with 18 universities worldwide, including: South Africa (Durban University of Technology), Uzbekistan (Namangan State Technical University), India (Galgotias University), Bangladesh (Uttara University), Ukraine (Khmelnytskyi Humanitarian – Pedagogical Academy, Leonid Yuzkov Khmelnytskyi University of Management and Law, and Poltava State Agrarian University), and the Philippines (Sorsogon State University, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, Eastern Visayas State University, De La Salle Lipa, University of the Immaculate Conception, Visayas University, Quezon City University, Jose Rizal University, Mindanao State University, and Davao Del Sur State College).

“We see various collaboration programs that can be implemented together, ranging from student exchanges, student mobility, visiting professors, faculty exchanges, joint research, to international acceleration programs. This collaboration is also expected to involve all four faculties at UMN and provide more global opportunities for both UMN students and lecturers,” Prof. Dr. Friska Natalia, S.Kom., M.T., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Internationalization, explained.

“UMN itself has a dedicated department focused on sustainability. We do not want knowledge and research to stop at the publication stage. More than that, we want to continue generating impactful knowledge and research that addresses problems existing in society,” Sari explained.
Briefly, Sari outlined various collaboration opportunities that can be implemented between UMN and university partners in the future. These collaboration programs include community outreach, innovative and impactful research, community empowerment, and curriculum collaborations.
