Tangerang – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) had two proud alumni at the 16th UMN Animation & Film Festival (Ucifest) on Friday (09/05/2025), namely the producer of the animation film “Jumbo”, Novia Puspa Sari, and the actor of the movie “Sleep Call,” Kristo Immanuel. Both are known to be UMN’s Faculty of Art and Design graduates.
Both are UMN alumni. At the event, they shared their stories about being students or entering the professional world.
“UMN came to Don Bosco and introduced us to the campus, and we were taken by bus to UMN. Then in UMN, honestly, it wasn’t the courses that attracted me, but the building shaped like an egg> I thought it was cool and would be fun to study here,” Kristo said.
“While at UMN, I took film, because back then there were no specialization courses at UMN. So, we took a general course. But in my group, I was always a writer and director, and I also acted in movies, but short films,” he added.
Meanwhile, Novia said she was initially told to enter the Accounting department.
“I was accepted, but suddenly UMN marketing came to the school and I changed my mind, so I ended up going to VCD,” Novia said.
“My batch was the first batch to experience the transition to a film major at that time. During the 5th semester, what was previously a cinematography specialization, a film study program emerged. So, in my class of 2014, in the 5th semester, all of us who took the cinematography specialization moved to become film majors,” Novia said.

On the same occasion, both shared their career journeys until they could develop as they are today.
“I think I’m a bit unique. I used to really dislike people who entered UMN, majored in film, but wanted to be content creators. Then, I licked my own saliva (an Indonesian saying to indicate doing something that they hate). So, I made a video impersonating 50 characters at that time, and then the video went viral. Still, I really didn’t want to be a content creator, but I wanted to be a filmmaker,” Kristo said.
However, from that experience, Kristo thinks everyone’s approach to achieving their goals is different, and he believes that path is the way to go.
“I made as much impersonation content as possible– it went viral first, and then slowly, I included movie elements in my content. What started as impersonation, I ended up making impersonation in the form of sketches,” he said.
Unlike Kristo, Novia started her career with an internship opportunity. From there, her career grew, and she was given the chance to co-produce the movie “Nanti Kita Cerita Tentang Hari Ini.”
“So from my internship until today, I have worked at the same house, Visinema. So I’ve been at Visinema for more than seven years since I was an intern in 2018,” Novia said.
“The first one to two years were spent more in the back office, meaning that the work was more in the office, not yet in the field. Then, only in 2019, I was allowed to be a co-producer of a movie. That was the first time I was given the opportunity to be a co-producer,” she said again.
This opportunity of a sharing session with UMN alumni is expected to inspire other UMN students to pursue their dreams, and UMN is still striving to be an ideal place for students to develop.
