Rector of UMN Wins Ganesa Widya Jasa Adiutama Award

Ninok Leksono, Rector of UMN and senior journalist of Kompas received the Ganesa Widya Jasa Adiutama award from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), on Saturday (8/20/2016). This award is given for Ninok’s contribution through his writings in the media in the field of science and technology, especially astronomy.

Ninok claimed to be proud to get this award. “Of course it is an honor because this is the highest award in ITB to alumni, individual figures or institutions who have devoted their knowledge, time, energy to advance science and technology. It’s very proud because his contribution was recognized.”

He added that although no longer active in science research, its existence as a science communicator turned out to be a plus point in itself. His writing and participation in various scientific institutions in Indonesia became the consideration of the ITB team to crown him as one of the recipients of this award.

In the future, Ninok himself increasingly wants to advance science and technology through his contribution as a science communicator. “The development of science and technology is very urgent. I have a dream of having a foundation to advance and communicate science and technology. Before I can make it happen now I want to remain a communicator so that aspirations and ideas among the public or scientific to be able to be awakened and conveyed to the government and the community and also the industry,” said the man who completed his Master of War Sciences from the Department of War Studies King’s College, London and a Doctorate in Political Science, University of Indonesia.

In addition to Ninok, there are 6 other people who get similar awards. They are Prof. Kikuo Matsui from Kyushu University, Japan, Prof. Phil Cummins from The Australian National University, Ir. Soedjono Kramadibrata, M.Sc., Mukkodas Syuhada, ST., MT., IAI, Muhammad Samsudin Drajat Hardjakusumah, and Emeritus Prof. Dr. Muhamad Awang, FASc from Putra University Malaysia.
