TRIDHARMA PERFORMANCE ACHIEVEMENTS
MASTER OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES PROGRAM
FACULTY OF COMMUNICATION
2023

EDUCATION

Number of new students
Initially, the number of students in the Master of Communication Studies was 16, and now it is 65.

ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFICATION:

  • The number of Master of Communication Studies students is increasing but is still below capacity. As a new study program, the Master of Communication Studies still needs to increase brand awareness as a postgraduate program with advantages compared to similar study programs that have been around for a long time.
  • Regarding targeting working students, the location of the UMN campus, which may be far from Jakarta, could be one of the reasons.

FOLLOW-UP:

  • Greater promotional intensity, especially through digital marketing, by emphasizing program excellence and testimonials from students and graduates.
  • Offering Master of Communication Studies to companies as a competency and career enhancement program in companies through cooperation schemes with companies (B2B)
  • Opening Master of Communication Studies classes in Jakarta to target students who are working in Jakarta. This program will start in the odd semester of 2024

International Program

Master of Communication Studies has successfully attracted international students through student exchange programs, but still lack full-time students.

ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFICATION:

  • International promotion to introduce the Master of Communication Studies study program has not been carried out intensively.
  • There is still a need to create a competitive advantage in the study program that attracts international students.
  • The student exchange program has attracted international students, especially from the University of the East, Philippines.

  • Offer special scholarships for international students.
  • Establish MoUs with foreign universities, especially in ASEAN and Timor Leste and increase cooperation for student exchange.
  • Offering special programs that are the hallmark of the Master of Communication Studies study program

Student Quality

This indicator was successfully achieved when the average GPA of graduates reached 3.42, exceeding the target of 3.2.

ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFICATION:

  • This success is supported by the high intensity of work on publications, theses, and innovative learning models through case studies and bringing in practitioner guest lecturers.
  • As an inhibiting factor, there is still a delay in submitting assignments, midterm exams, or end-of-semester exams for working students.

FOLLOW-UP:

  • Adding case studies and guest lecturers from practitioners in each course.

Student Achievement

This indicator has yet to be fully achieved because there is only 1 achievement.

ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFICATION:

  • Participation in competitions and achievements, especially international, requires motivation from lecturers and student activeness. As an inhibiting factor, it is difficult for students to divide their time between their busy work and their involvement in activities outside of lectures (such as conferences).

FOLLOW-UP:

  • Involving students in basic writing activities to improve their ability to write scientific papers.

Effectiveness and productivity of education

This indicator is measured by the average study period. This indicator is considered to have been successfully achieved because students have completed an average study period of 1.5 years.

ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFICATION:

  • This indicator has been achieved due to the motivation of academic supervisors, course lecturers, and thesis supervisors. However, the inhibiting factor is each student’s motivation to complete the study and the busyness, especially working students.

FOLLOW-UP:

  • More intensive guidance process to ensure students graduate on time.

Competitiveness of graduates

This indicator has been successfully achieved with the percentage of graduates’ work field suitability reaching 100%. The performance of graduates is assessed from the results of surveys/feedback from graduate users based on the 7 BAN-PT & CPL indicators.

ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFICATION:

  • Generally, students have worked in the field of communication so that after graduation, graduates have worked in their fields.
  • Graduate competencies are per the Learning Outcomes. The highest feedback for competence is on foreign language skills, ethics, and cooperation indicators.
  • For students who do not have work experience, they try to work in the field of communication.

FOLLOW-UP:

  • Increasing the role of the CDC in providing job vacancy information
  • Increasing cooperation with companies in the field of communication in recruitment
  • Increasing cooperation with companies through employee competency improvement programs through further study at the Master of Communication Studies
  • Updating course materials in line with technological developments that have an impact on communication science

Academic Environment

  • Many academic activities are carried out, including Executive sharing practitioners and experts as guest lecturers.
  • Research results become teaching materials for lectures.

ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFICATION:

  • Already achieved. Every semester, the study program has allocated time and budget to invite guest lecturers from practitioners. However, cooperation with companies still needs improvement.

FOLLOW-UP:

  • Collaborate with industry and professional associations

Research

  • The research roadmap already exists and is aligned with Lecturer Competencies.
  • Research is one of the KPIs of lecturers
  • Increased number of collaborative research between lecturers and students
  • Increase in the number of research collaborations between lecturers and industry

ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFICATION:

  • The ability to write in reputable international journals still needs to be improved to achieve Scopus-indexed journals.
  • Including journal publications as a KPI encourages lecturers to conduct research and publications actively.
  • Research funded by grants from the government or industry still needs to be improved.
  • Research Collaboration and Publications with International Partners still need to be improved.

FOLLOW-UP:

  • International journal writing training
  • Quantitative and qualitative research methodology training
  • Grant proposal writing training
  • Provide special assistance through consultation sessions between lecturers and the Institute for Research and Community Service Research.
  • Requiring lecturers to be able to conduct research with students (Student Involvement Decree)
  • Increase the number of reputable foreign university partners and encourage implementation in the field of research.

  • Number of Community Service Lecturers and Study Programs according to the target.
  • Community Service targets include Village Government, MSMEs, Professionals, and Companies.
  • Implementation of Community Service activities involving students.
  • Community Service results that the community can utilize.

ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFICATION:

  • Village community problems that want to be assisted are not detected accurately
  • Community Service activities of lecturers are still partial and not integrated, so the impact of the benefits felt by the community is not significant.
  • There are still a few industry partners involved.

FOLLOW-UP:

  • Increasing programs/activities that can be adopted realistically by villages, MSMEs, and industry.
  • Increasing the number of Community Service partners of the UMN Communications Faculty / Master of Communication Studies Study Program.
