Tangerang, (26/10/2026) – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) has officially opened Sustainability Week 2026, a program initiated by UMN’s Center for Sustainability. Running for one week, the event brings together topics across technology, business, design, and communication to encourage meaningful contributions to a sustainable future.
As an annual program, Sustainability Week is one expression of UMN’s commitment to integrating sustainability principles into various aspects of campus life. With the theme “Beyond 2030: What Future Are We Building?”, the Rector of UMN, Dr. Andrey Andoko, officially opened the event.
“Sustainability often sounds like a global issue, when in fact the problems facing the planet are the responsibility of us all. Putting it into practice isn’t just about sorting waste or saving energy; it’s also reflected in our mindset and our way of life,” Andrey said.
He stressed that sustainability is not only about the environment, but also about the competencies the industry needs. These abilities are known as green skills, and they are becoming increasingly relevant as demand grows for talent able to support sustainable business and industry practices.
“That’s why sustainability is one of UMN’s main themes alongside artificial intelligence (AI). The theme has been integrated into academic activity, research, campus operations, and a wide range of student activities. Sustainability Week is one way UMN demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and to collaboration between education, government, and industry,” he added.
Andrey hopes the forum will encourage new innovations and ideas from UMN’s academic community while strengthening collaboration to address the sustainability challenges ahead.
The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, also welcomed the opening of Sustainability Week 2026 online. He praised the event as a space to develop ideas, innovation, and collaboration that can impact Indonesia.
“I’d like to commend UMN for holding Sustainability Week. This forum produces ideas, innovation, and real collaboration for Indonesia. The theme ‘Building Indonesia Beyond 2030’ invites us to think far ahead, which will be important on the way to a Golden Indonesia,” Agus said.
Agus expressed hope that Indonesia can become a safe, just, and increasingly advanced country amid global change. In his view, sustainability should guide national development so progress keeps pace with efforts to protect the planet for future generations. In that way, the benefits of development can be felt evenly across society.
“Through Sustainability Week, UMN is opening up a meeting space for industry, education, government, and most importantly, young people. I hope this forum can encourage the development of green technology and build green skills in the midst of digital transformation. I’m confident that a great deal of creative work from UMN students can emerge through this event,” Agus concluded.
Sustainability Week 2026 runs for one week at the UMN Function Hall, with a varied program involving the academic community. Through this series of activities, UMN hopes to broaden cross-sector collaboration while encouraging the application of sustainability principles in education, industry, and everyday life.
