TANGERANG – Advances in digital technology continue to drive organizations to transform the way they conduct business processes. This transformation is not only about using technology but also about how companies integrate it into their business strategies, foster innovation, and respond to the ever-evolving needs of the industry.
This is one reason the Master of Technology Management (MMT) program at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) organized a practice-based learning activity through an industry visit on Tuesday (July 21, 2026). UMN MMT students had the opportunity to visit PT Odoo Software Indonesia, located on the 2nd floor of the Knowledge Tower, Digital Hub, Foresta Business Area, BSD City, Tangerang Regency, Banten.
This activity was designed to give students firsthand experience observing how technology is applied in an industrial setting. According to the Head of UMN’s Master of Technology Management Program, Djohan Gunawan Hasan, S.Kom., M.M., MMT students need to gain an understanding that comes not only from classroom learning but also from seeing technology applied directly in the workplace.
“Through this industry visit, students have the opportunity to learn from a technology company that has successfully developed digital solutions for various business sectors, thereby enabling them to connect theory with real-world practice in the workplace,” Djohan said.
PT Odoo Software Indonesia was selected as a partner for this activity because it is relevant to MMT students’ field of study. PT Odoo Software Indonesia is an official subsidiary of Belgium-based Odoo S.A., which provides a suite of open-source integrated business management software (Enterprise Resource Planning, or ERP). As a global technology company, Odoo not only provides Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions but also offers an integrated business application ecosystem that covers a wide range of organizational needs, such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Sales, Accounting, Human Resources (HR), Inventory, Manufacturing, and E-commerce.

Through this visit, students were invited to observe how technology is implemented in business processes. They also had the opportunity to understand various other aspects of managing a technology company, ranging from business growth strategies and a culture of innovation to product development and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation to support an organization’s digital transformation.
Given this scope, Djohan noted that the visit to Odoo gave students the opportunity to see that technology does not exist in isolation within an organization. Its application is closely tied to how a company formulates strategies, develops products, improves efficiency, and addresses business challenges arising amid digital advancements.
The activities during the industry visit were designed to be interactive. Students participated in a sharing session about Odoo’s profile, history, and growth as a global technology company. Additionally, there was a presentation on ERP implementation to support digital transformation and business process efficiency.
Djohan explained that the learning experience also included icebreakers and interactive games that introduced ERP concepts in a more engaging way. Students then participated in workshops and Q&A sessions with Odoo practitioners to discuss technology, innovation, and various challenges facing the industry.
The experience continued with an office tour. During this session, students had the opportunity to see the work environment and company culture firsthand, while gaining insight into how technology is implemented in the operational activities of PT Odoo Software Indonesia. The series of activities was rounded out with a networking session that gave students the opportunity to engage in direct discussions with Odoo professionals and expand their industry networks.
“In addition to learning about ERP implementation and digital transformation, students also gained insights into innovation, growth strategies for technology companies, the competencies needed in the digital age, and career opportunities in the industry,” said Djohan.
These experiences are expected to broaden MMT students’ understanding of the relationship between technology and business. Rather than viewing technology solely from a technical perspective, students are encouraged to understand how technology is an integral part of corporate strategy and can be leveraged to address various organizational needs.
According to Djohan, this type of learning is also part of MMT UMN’s efforts to complement the classroom learning process with experiences that more closely mirror real-world industry conditions. Concepts related to digital transformation, innovation, and technology management—which are studied academically—can be observed firsthand through practices taking place in a business environment.
Thus, industry visits are not merely sightseeing trips; they also provide a space for students to develop analytical and strategic thinking skills. According to Djohan, direct interaction with industry practitioners provides additional insight into corporate needs and the competencies students must cultivate to navigate the evolving job market.
“In this way, students can develop analytical and strategic thinking skills while gaining an understanding of the ever-evolving needs of the industry,” Djohan explained.
Interacting directly with technology companies also gives students opportunities to identify prospects that can emerge from the use of technology. Knowledge of ERP, digital transformation, innovation, and even AI and automation enriches students’ perspectives on business challenges from a technological standpoint.
Looking ahead, Djohan noted that the experience gained through this industry visit could also mark the beginning of a broader relationship between UMN’s MMT program and PT Odoo Software Indonesia. The UMN Master of Technology Management program hopes this partnership will grow through various forms of collaboration that benefit both parties.
Such collaboration could include guest lectures, workshops, joint research, and the development of industry-based case studies that integrate digital solutions. With the possibility of continued collaboration, the relationship between educational institutions and industry does not end with a single visit but can evolve into a space for the ongoing exchange of knowledge and experience.
