Tangerang, (12/05/2026) – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) is once again exploring international collaboration with the Italian Embassy to Indonesia and the Uni-Italia Indonesia Office. This collaboration will encompass a range of academic programs accessible to UMN students and lecturers. This opportunity represents a strategic step for UMN in expanding its network of global university partners and strengthening its commitment to internationalizing education on the world stage.
As part of UMN’s efforts to become a world-class university, it not only earns international accolades but also demonstrates this commitment through collaborations with international institutions and universities. This time, UMN had the opportunity to discuss potential academic cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Indonesia and the Uni-Italia Indonesia Office.
“We want to expand academic collaboration, and the topics that can be explored together are quite broad, spanning the sciences, humanities, and social sciences. This collaboration will later include joint research and publications between UMN and universities in Italy,” Roberto Carniel, Scientific Attaché at the Italian Embassy to Indonesia, Timor Leste, and ASEAN in Jakarta, said
As an initial step, Roberto is open to interesting topics that UMN can innovate on, aligned with UMN’s lecturers’ areas of expertise. According to Roberto, UMN’s interesting topics can open up collaboration opportunities with various universities in Italy. Romero Sinaga, Head of the Uni-Italia Indonesia Office, continued the discussion on collaboration.
“We are here to facilitate collaboration opportunities between universities in Indonesia and Italy, hoping that aligned programs can be collaboratively implemented. In this regard, we certainly want to facilitate UMN’s expansion of collaboration opportunities with various universities in Italy. I believe that UMN students and lecturers have the competence to collaborate,” Romero said.
Upon reviewing the four faculties and study programs at UMN, Romero found that 80% of the programs align with the areas of specialization at various Italian universities. The collaboration programs that can be explored together are diverse and cover a range of topics.
“The outcomes of this program can later include fast-track mobility for students, student exchanges, scholarships for further study, research, and lecturer exchanges. There are certainly many collaborations that can be pursued, including with UMN’s Faculty of Engineering and Informatics. Quite a few collaboration opportunities can be explored together,” he added.
Romero also sees other opportunities from UMN’s Faculty of Communication Sciences, Faculty of Art and Design, and Faculty of Business. Given the broad scope of learning and industry developments in Italy, Romero believes that UMN can initiate collaborations based on recommendations from Italian universities. Continuing the discussion, the Rector of UMN, Dr. Andrey Andoko, responded to this initiative.
“There are quite a few international collaboration opportunities that can be undertaken between UMN and universities in Italy. This is also part of our roadmap, given that UMN has already explored many collaborations with universities in Asia. Currently, we want to expand our university partners in Europe,” Andrey explained.
Andrey also revealed that UMN had previously established collaborations with Italian universities through the IISMA (Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards) program, so, for him, collaboration between UMN and Italian universities is not unfamiliar. Andrey hopes that through this discussion, UMN’s network of university partners, particularly in Italy, can be expanded.
“I am pleased and proud to have the opportunity to discuss collaboration with the Embassy of Italy, especially in the academic and educational fields. This collaboration is important to us as we continue our commitment to providing international learning experiences for UMN students and lecturers. Certainly, there will be various programs that can be collaboratively implemented in the future,” Prof. Dr. Friska Natalia, S.Kom., M.T., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Internationalization, said.
Friska herself will later open up collaboration programs such as 3+2 programs, visiting professors, student mobility, joint competitions, research, and inbound and outbound student exchanges. Friska is very open to exploring collaborations with universities that have areas of specialization aligned with UMN.
“I hope that through this collaboration, UMN’s network of university partners can be expanded, especially with universities in Italy. I believe that this collaboration can elevate UMN’s name on the global stage and, of course, establish sustainable collaboration,” she added.
