New students orientation opening inauguration (Doc. UMN)
Tangerang, 19 August 2025 – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) has officialy opened the new students orientation (Orientasi Mahasiswa Baru) 2025 through the set titled “Day One of the Expedition”. The opening ceremony was marked by the striking of a gong by Rector of UMN, Andrey Andoko, welcoming 2,092 new students as they embark on their academic journey with a spirit of integrity, collaboration, and readiness to learn. From the moment of inauguration, the euphoria of expedition felt strong, the new students were introduced to academic services and organizations as an initial foundation for adapting to the university environment.
The main highlight of this year is the cohort activity titled “Lembar Asa.” Each student wrote their own hope in a piece which was then assembled into a “compass,” symbolizing the direction of their journey throughout their studies and beyond. The compass isn’t just pointing out the purpose, but also reflecting a collective journey of becoming individuals of integrity by shaping values and taking responsibility for the choices they make. In a spirit of togetherness, participants were encouraged to formulate their vision, align their interests, and prepare a meaningful learning journey map.
In the classroom, The Gyana briefing strengthens the transition from high school students to university students. The material is designed to build up critical thinking, flexibility, and adaptive, in line with UMN’s 5C Value. Meanwhile, the introduction to student organizations through annually updated video presentations helps new students understand the functions, locations, and service channels of the organizations they can access throughout their studies.
“The Gyana briefing is designed as a map so that the students could understand the process transformation from students to university students who could think critically, flexibly, and adaptively. Through ‘Lembar Asa’ that we designed as a compass, each person has their own clear direction throughout their academic journey”, stated Dylan Lion, Gyana Coordinator/PIC OMB UMN 2025.
On the same occasion, Alexa Putri, Naratama/BPH of OMB UMN 2025, emphasized the importance of an informative and participant-friendly orientation. “This year, the institutional introduction videos are focused on functions, locations, and service channels, so that new students know where to seek assistance. We have carefully prepared the entire series of activities while adapting to evolving policy dynamics, ensuring that the implementation remains smooth and relevant for the 2025 cohort,” she stated.
Other uniqueness is also embodied in the group naming “Perhiasan Nusantara,” reflecting the values of tradition and the long process of cultivating perseverance in harmony with the spirit of OMB UMN 2025 to foster responsibility, diligence, and commitment to the SDGs, including a focus on social action under the theme “Celebrate Independence, Nurture the Spirit of the Nation.” The entire program was designed to guide new students in discovering their roles, honing their potential, and making meaningful contributions from day one.
Closing the first day of new students orientation, The committee encouraged students to rely on their personal “compass,” guided by their values, interests, and goals in choosing academic pursuits, organizational involvement, and creative endeavors. With this foundation, UMN hopes that each participant will become more resilient in facing challenges, clear in charting their direction, and consistent in upholding integrity throughout their academic journey and into the professional world.
