TANGERANG – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability through the “2025 Tree Planting Manifest” event held at the UMN Monument area in Tangerang on Friday (11/14/2025).
The “2025 Tree Planting Manifest” is part of a student initiative in the “UMN Mentoring” program to promote a greener and more sustainable campus. The event, which took place from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time emphasized the active role of students as the main drivers of sustainability actions, while also supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: Life on Land.
The event was attended by leaders and representatives of related units, including the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics UMN, Dr. Niki Prastomo, S.T., M.Sc., General Manager of Building Management UMN, Sudarman Sutanto, and Manager of the Center for Sustainability UMN, Maria Advenita Gita Elmada, S.I.Kom., M.Si..
In his speech, Dr. Niki emphasized that UMN’s commitment to sustainability issues has been a foundation since the university was founded. Niki also added that UMN’s campus design, curriculum, operations, and research activities have been directed to contribute to environmental sustainability.
Niki also emphasized that every human activity cannot be separated from the use of resources, so the responsibility to maintain environmental sustainability must be carried out for current and future generations.
“The concept of sustainability itself is how we can help, or also raise awareness that the Earth needs help. The Earth needs our support,” Niki said.
Niki also emphasized that tree planting is not just a symbolic activity, but also part of a long-term effort to build ecological awareness among students.
“We can say that trees are a symbol of hope. We are not just planting trees, but also planting hope, so that sustainability at UMN and sustainability globally can continue to develop and help our generation and future generations,” Niki said.
From the perspective of campus sustainability policy, Maria Advenita from the UMN Center for Sustainability highlighted that the biggest challenge is ensuring that sustainability does not stop at mere discussion, but is actually implemented. She emphasized that climate change is progressing rapidly and is full of uncertainty, so every small effort, such as planting trees, has long-term value.
She also emphasized that the benefits of greening actions are not always immediately apparent, but are in fact part of a long-term educational process. “What we plant today may not immediately benefit us today. And that’s actually how education works and how everything works, we have to not think in an instant way. It will be a great feeling to see that our efforts don’t just stop today, but my friends also remember ‘I once planted a tree at UMN’,” Advenita emphasized.
Advenita added that one day, when the students return as alumni, they will be able to see the trees they planted and feel that their contribution was part of their journey in supporting sustainability. That experience, said Advenita, could trigger a desire to take similar action elsewhere. This effort shows that UMN is not only building a green campus but also a community that continues to strive for and realize environmental sustainability every day.

UMN reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability through the “Manifest 2025 Tree Planting” activity held at the UMN Monument area, Tangerang, on Friday (11/14/2025).
This tree planting program is a new initiative from “Mentoring and Manifest 2025”. PIC Staff Mentoring & Manifest 2025, Yanuar Lurisa Aldio, S.Psi., explained that this activity was carried out over two days. The first day was carried out symbolically with representatives from the rectorate and staff, while the second day was with UMN students from the class of 2025.
“A new history made by our student friends, namely, planting trees. We have indeed been given the mandate to find ways to preserve nature, but we are starting by building awareness,” Yanuar said.
Through this activity, UMN hopes that greening efforts will not stop at the moment of planting, but will continue through maintenance and sustainable innovation in preserving the campus environment. The concrete action of the “2025 Manifesto Tree Planting” also serves as proof of UMN’s consistency as a globally recognized “Green Campus.”
UMN consistently ranks high in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, even placing 128th in the world in 2024. Additionally, UMN is recognized as one of Indonesia’s Greenest Private Universities. This commitment is evident not only in its energy-efficient buildings but also in a culture deeply rooted in the global sustainability ecosystem.
