Mission of the Master’s in Design Program (M.Ds)

  1. To provide a learning process focused on sustainable design, supported by qualified faculty members and an up-to-date curriculum aligned with industry developments.

  2. To conduct research programs that contribute to human-centered design development, advancing the fields of art and design based on ICT, environmental friendliness, ecological balance, and international-level energy efficiency.

  3. To apply knowledge of art and design oriented toward human needs in community service initiatives.

  4. To build collaborations and partnerships with national and international universities, government institutions, professional associations, and industry stakeholders to strengthen graduates’ competencies and institutional development.

The M.Ds Program at UMN offers a unique and comprehensive approach to educating future designers. By integrating cutting-edge design theory, industry practices, and digital technology, we prepare graduates to develop innovative, sustainable, and socially impactful design solutions.

The courses offered are the result of close collaboration with industry partners, placing the program within the realm of applied sciences. Over the span of four semesters, students complete a total of 54 credit units (SKS).

Entry Requirement

UMN Master's in Design (M.Ds)
  • Graduates from higher education institutions accredited by BAN-PT.
  • Applicants from diverse academic backgrounds are welcome, provided they meet the requirements.
  • Required Documents:
    1. Portfolio: A collection of works related to design, art, or other innovative and applicable creations. These may include commercial or personal projects completed, published, or in progress—within the last 3 years.
    2. Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    3. Statement of Purpose: A maximum 2-page A4 document outlining your academic/professional background and your intended thesis or creative project.
  • Completing the Documents:
    1. Bachelor’s Degree Certificate and Transcript (Minimum GPA: 2.75)
    2. TOEFL/IELTS Certificate
    3. Academic Potential Test (TPA) Results
    4. Recommendation Letter(s)
    5. Relevant Competency Certificates (Optional)
  • Interview Process:
    Candidates who pass the initial document screening will be invited for an online interview, lasting a maximum of 40 minutes.

Further Study

Graduates holding a Master of Design degree from UMN are eligible to pursue postgraduate education at local or international universities in the fields of Sustainable Design, Design Research, Technoculture, Human-Centered Design, New Media, and E-commerce.

Academic Guidance Meetings

Academic Guidance Meetings

Students are required to attend academic guidance meetings at least 3 times per semester. The schedule of the meetings will be provided by the respective academic supervisors. Students have to bring the academic guidance book for the meeting and they need to make sure that the academic supervisor signs it.

Continuing Education Department (CED) is an educational development program at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) which is part of the Kompas Gramedia Group. We have various programs in language courses, human development, Testing Centers for national and international certifications, and training programs.
