What’s It Like Studying at UMN: The Picture of The Learning Experience and Student Life
July 22, 2026Choosing a university is not only about the study programs offered but also about the learning experience that will shape students’ readiness to face the professional world. Every campus has a different learning approach. At Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN), students are not only equipped with academic knowledge but are also encouraged to develop practical skills, critical thinking abilities, and career readiness from the very start of their education.
Learning Methods Oriented Toward the Real World
One of the things that sets the study experience at UMN apart is its learning approach that connects theory with practice. UMN’s curriculum is designed based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and implements Project-Based Learning (PBL), so that students do not only learn concepts in the classroom but also apply them through various projects and case studies relevant to industry needs. Through this approach, students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills in tackling the challenges they face. Learning materials also continuously follow developments in technology, business, and global issues, so that students gain a more contextual learning experience.
Learning Directly from Industry and International Academics
The study experience at UMN is also enriched through various collaborations with industry and academics from various countries. Students have the opportunity to participate in activities that broaden their horizons while providing learning experiences outside the classroom. One example is the collaboration between UMN’s Faculty of Engineering and Informatics and the IO Foundation, which opens up global collaboration opportunities for students. In addition, UCIFEST presents an international conference involving participants from various countries, allowing students to discuss and exchange perspectives in an international environment. For students interested in entrepreneurship, UMN also presents Entrepreneurship Week with Skystar Ventures as a platform to develop business ideas, collaborate with practitioners, and understand the process of building a business while still on campus.
Career Preparation Begins While Still in College
In addition to providing a comprehensive learning experience, UMN also helps students prepare for their careers from the early stages of their studies. One way is through internship programs that give students the opportunity to gain direct work experience before graduating. Additionally, students can participate in various career development programs such as Career Day, Campus Hiring, and various activities with industry partners. Through these programs, students have the opportunity to build professional networks while also understanding the needs of the working world from an early stage. For students who want to become entrepreneurs, support is also provided through the Skystar Ventures entrepreneurship ecosystem, which offers mentoring, training, and opportunities to develop startups.
Opportunities for Self-Development Outside the Classroom
The study experience is not only shaped through the learning process in class. Therefore, UMN encourages students to actively participate in organizations, Student Activity Units (UKM), and various student programs. These activities provide space for students to develop leadership, communication, teamwork, and organizational management skills that will be useful when entering the professional world. On the other hand, a learning environment that involves international students also provides cross-cultural experiences. Students not only continuously sharpen their English language skills but also learn to collaborate and communicate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
A Study Experience That Prepares Students for the Future
The study experience at UMN is designed to provide more than just academic learning. Through a project-based curriculum, collaboration with industry and international academics, career development programs, and various opportunities for organizational involvement and entrepreneurship, students gain a learning experience relevant to the needs of the professional world. With this approach, students are not only prepared to complete their studies but are also equipped with knowledge, skills, and experience that can add value when entering the workforce or building a career in the future.
