Jakarta – On Wednesday (09/17/2025), Dr. Andrey Andoko, Rector of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, had the opportunity to participate in the Green Initiative Conference. The Green Initiative Conference was organized by Kumparan in collaboration with Multimedia Nusantara University. Andrey participated in a panel discussion on “Waste to Energy and Opportunities to Achieve the Target of 100 Percent Electricity from Renewable Energy 10 Years Earlier.”
The Kumparan Green Initiative Conference is a space for collaboration between various sectors, including industry, government, and institutions. This event is intended as a forum for the community and environmental enthusiasts to gather, gain new knowledge, network, and actively contribute to supporting sustainability.
During the panel discussion, Andrey discussed various issues related to clean energy and concrete steps that institutions can take to support sustainability. These steps are also part of a commitment to supporting sustainability in Indonesia and worldwide.
“When discussing waste, the first step is how we should educate the public. Before waste enters the selection process, the public can also practice the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), which are items that can be reused,” Andrey explained.
Andrey also explained the importance of implementing the 3Rs and various examples that UMN can do, from processing waste into eco-enzymes or fertilizers, to recycling waste that can be reused. For Andrey, this step can be implemented not only at home but also on campus.
“After we do this, we can then sort the waste. In addition to being a strategic step, waste sorting can help various parties convert waste into clean, renewable energy,” Andrey said.
In addition to waste management, Andrey also stated that energy conservation is integral to generating 100% energy. A simple thing that can be done is to use air conditioners (AC) sparingly and set the temperature appropriately. Andrey emphasized that we must consider both the production and consumption sides as a society.
“Talking about geothermal energy, it has great potential, but also great risks. Many things still need to be studied, starting from financing, distribution to the community, and various other risks. Indonesia is located on the equator, so there are many opportunities and great potential besides the sun,” Andrey continued.
Seeing the many opportunities for renewable energy in Indonesia, Andrey believes that, in addition to using government funding, we can collaborate with the private sector to save on financing. Many private parties and institutions are encouraged to use renewable energy and make it a policy.
