May 16, 2024Tangerang – As the global water crisis continues to affect millions, the importance of using water responsibly has never been clearer. On our campus, this awareness is more than just a talking point. It is reflected in the policies we adopt, the infrastructure we build, and the daily habits we encourage. Our approach to water conservation is rooted in long-term commitment and practical action.
The journey begins with a strong policy foundation, named water management policy that prioritizes sustainability and resource efficiency. This is then translated into real changes across campus that aim to reduce water usage without compromising comfort or hygiene.
One of the most visible examples can be found in our restrooms. Stickers reminding users to “Save Water” are placed near sinks and toilets, gently encouraging everyone to think before they turn on the tap. While these reminders are small, they help shape a mindset of awareness that leads to meaningful change.
To complement this behavioral shift, the campus has also invested in smart infrastructure. Many traditional faucets have been replaced with tap-to-go push taps that stop the flow of water automatically after each use. This significantly reduces unnecessary water waste and ensures that water is used only when needed.
Every building on campus is also equipped with low-volume flush systems. These systems use only 3.6 liters of water per flush, helping to conserve thousands of liters each day across the university. In addition, we make use of treated water for non-potable purposes such as toilet flushing and landscape irrigation. This helps reduce the demand for clean water sources while making full use of available resources.
But true change goes beyond systems and equipment. What truly drives our water-saving mission is the growing culture of sustainability among students, staff, and faculty. Conscious water use is becoming second nature, supported by ongoing education and visible infrastructure that makes sustainable choices easy and accessible.
Promoting Sustainable Development Goal 6 is not a one-time campaign. It is a continuous effort to turn awareness into action. Through a combination of thoughtful design, policy alignment, and community participation, our campus is doing its part to protect one of the world’s most precious resources.
Water conservation is not just a matter of technology or infrastructure. It begins with intention, continues with behavior, and succeeds through collaboration. On our campus, we believe that small habits really can make a big impact.
