LPB Banten 2026 Encourages Young People to Develop Their Ideas Through Research

Tangerang, (25/09/2026) – The Faculty of Engineering and Informatics of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (Fakultas Teknik dan Informatika/FTI UMN), in collaboration with the Center for Young Scientist Indonesia, has once again held the Youth Research Competition (Lomba Penelitian Belia/LPB) at the Banten Province level. This selection round is the first step before participants go on to the National round, which will again be held at the UMN campus.

The 2026 Banten Province Youth Research Competition (LPB) drew 144 students presenting 76 research projects across 7 fields: Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Environment, Life Sciences, Economics, and Sociology. The event reflects UMN’s commitment to encouraging research from an early age.

“It’s a pleasure to host the LPB again and to see the participants’ enthusiasm. For me, this isn’t a competition between students or between schools, but a conference where participants can discuss, collaborate, and come to understand a range of new academic perspectives,” said Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, S.T., M.Sc., Dean of FTI UMN, in his welcoming remarks.

Niki also emphasized the importance of helping students become familiar with research early on. Through the LPB, participants are expected to gain a foundation for developing their research skills in the future. Niki hopes participants will grow together and develop new abilities.

“The LPB is our commitment to fostering a research culture in Indonesia. I’m confident that by giving students a space for their ideas through the LPB, we can keep encouraging their interest in doing research, especially given that the number of participants keeps rising from year to year. More than a competition, this event can open up a great deal of new understanding, not only among the students but also with the judges,” said Monika Raharti, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Young Scientists.

In line with Niki, Monika also emphasized that the LPB is not a competitive arena, but part of CYS’s vision of continually sharpening how young people think from an early age through research. Students are expected to gain something valuable from taking part in the LPB.
