Tangerang, (10/11/2025) – The Faculty of Art and Design at UMN held a guest lecture with Deatirza Herma, Creative Campaign Lead at Rosé All Day and freelance photographer. In this guest lecture, students not only learned how to apply makeup and the different types of makeup available, but also practiced how to apply makeup correctly and how to create makeup effects that look good on camera.
In the beauty industry, especially in makeup artistry, the ability to apply makeup is not only judged by the final result and facial aesthetics. It is also important to consider color balance, makeup type, and face type. In commercial brands, this work is a collaboration between makeup artists and photographers. This guest lecture will encourage students to practice how makeup skills and technical skills are important.
“In doing commercials or advertisements, we cannot just take pictures and sell products, but we must know the unique selling point (USP) of the product. Once we know the USP, we can plan the desired campaign, from model selection to the features we want to highlight,” Deatirza said.
Deatirza emphasized the importance of creating various makeup references. Things to consider include cheek shape, eyes, hair color, and eyebrows—all of which must be taken into account to achieve the right harmony in the final result.
“In addition to the makeup results, as a makeup artist and photographer, you must also understand the photo set, starting from the color of the clothes, accessories, and background in the photo. These things may seem trivial, but they greatly affect the photo results. Not everything that is seen by the eye is the same as the results in the photo,” Deatirza explained.
She also gave tips to students to always take before-and-after photos, as this can help identify significant differences. The most important thing is to find a model who can represent the product, so that the target market will be more likely to purchase the product being promoted.

In this guest lecture, students continued by practicing makeup with a glossy look finish. Students focused on creating a shiny base makeup, while also paying attention to other important aspects such as shade, even distribution of makeup on the face, and the final result in photos. Students are expected to not only gain experience in how to apply makeup correctly, but also technical skills in terms of communication and collaborative work.
