Tangerang, August 12, 2026 — Kompas Gramedia, together with the founding family and stakeholders, today launched the book “Kisah Para Perintis Kompas Gramedia” (The Story of the Pioneers of Kompas Gramedia), a visual-narrative work that tells the life journey of two important figures, P.K. Ojong and Jakob Oetama. This book is expected to become a legacy of values that can continue to inspire generations of Indonesians.
The launch also featured a talk show session titled “Values That Become the Foundation,” featuring the CEO of KG, the Chairman of the Foundation, the Rector of UMN, speakers, the Publisher, KG Employees, and UMN Alumni Writers. In the session, Lilik Oetama, as CEO of Kompas Gramedia, stated that the book’s approach, presented as an illustrated story, is a highly relevant way to reach today’s younger generation.

“We hope the great values in this book can be present close to children, teenagers, students, and all young generations. The two founders of Kompas Gramedia instilled integrity, perseverance, a spirit of continuous learning, and instilled the belief that every work must have meaning,” said Lilik.
Lilik also emphasized that amid the rapidly evolving digital transformation, Kompas Gramedia continues to evolve. However, for Lilik, in every change and transformation, there are the founders’ ‘values’ that must not change. “The values of integrity, quality, responsibility, and long-term vision must remain the main compass. This is the greatest legacy of our pioneers, and the reason why the book ‘Kisah Para Perintis Kompas Gramedia’ is important. This book is here to ensure that the next generation not only knows the names P.K. Ojong and Jakob Oetama but also understands the life values they fought for,” he added.
Lilik appreciated how the approach and this book are presented as an illustrated story. This approach is one of the relevant ways to reach today’s young generation. Lilik wants the story of the pioneers of Kompas Gramedia to be understood, felt, and interpreted by the next generation, amidst a world that continues to transform.
“We may continue to grow anywhere, explore new opportunities, and continue to transform. But we must not lose our roots, and those roots are the founders’ life values. May this book become a medium that continues to bring to life the values of the pioneers, and ensure that their spirit remains the Foundation in building the future of Kompas Gramedia and Indonesia,” Lilik concluded.
Mariani Ojong, one of the daughters of P.K. Ojong, also attended the launch of the book “Kisah Para Perintis Kompas Gramedia.” As a member of the founding family, Mariani sees this book as an effective medium to introduce the important values passed down by the pioneers in an easy-to-understand way, especially for children. “One of the values we can learn and also implement is how we as individuals must be able to make our own decisions, both small and big matters, and of course be responsible for the decisions we have chosen,” she said.
Mariani also revealed that honesty is one of the values emphasized by P.K. Ojong, both in life and in work. For her, this value is also an important concept that the younger generation needs to understand and apply. This book is also a moment of reflection for the extended Kompas Gramedia family on the long journey built on the principles of humanity, dedication, and courage in decision-making. Through this book, Kompas Gramedia hopes that the founders’ noble values can remain alive and serve as a legacy for the institution, the family, and the wider community.
