UMN Strengthens International Collaboration with The University of Debrecen, Hungary
August 5, 2025Character & Leadership Development for Staff
At Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, ethical values are embedded in everyday practice and institutional culture. The university ensures that all new employees, both academic and non-academic, participate in a mandatory New Employee Orientation program known as NEO. This program serves as the foundation for introducing institutional values, professional responsibilities, and expected standards of conduct. By integrating ethics from the beginning of employment, UMN establishes a shared understanding of integrity and accountability across the organisation.

The program introduces UMN’s core values, known as the 5C:
1. Caring
2. Credible
3. Competent
4. Competitive
5. Customer Delight.
These values guide behavior, service quality, and professional interactions within the university. The training also covers general ethical principles that shape decision making and workplace conduct. For academic staff, specific guidance is provided on ethics in teaching, ethics in research, and ethics in publishing academic work to ensure responsible scholarly practice. In addition, employees receive training on occupational health and safety, prevention and handling of sexual violence, quality management, and discussions on responding to disruption in a rapidly evolving environment.
The program is delivered directly by key institutional leaders to reinforce its importance. The General Manager of Human Resources, who leads the HR committee tasked with implementing policies, programmes, and training related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and human rights on campus, provides guidance on ethical standards and inclusive workplace practices. The Rector of UMN also addresses participants to emphasize leadership commitment to integrity and professionalism. In addition, the Internal Quality Assurance Manager contributes to training on governance, compliance, and quality standards. Through this leadership involvement, UMN ensures that ethical values are not only introduced formally but consistently modeled and strengthened at all organizational levels. Character Building and Ethical Commitment for Students
The cultivation of ethical values begins at the student level through a mandatory Character-Building Mentoring program for all new students at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. This structured mentoring initiative introduces and explores UMN’s core values, known as the 5C: Caring, Credible, Competitive, and Customer Delight. Through guided discussions, reflection sessions, and value-based activities, students are encouraged to internalize these principles as part of their academic journey and personal development. The program serves as an important foundation for shaping responsible, respectful, and integrity-driven members of the university community. For more documentation and updates, explore here.

In addition to mentoring, all incoming students are required to complete a digital signing of the Student Code of Ethics and are provided with an official code of conduct handbook as a guide throughout their studies. This formal commitment reinforces the importance of ethical behavior, academic integrity, and mutual respect from the very beginning of university life. By integrating value education and ethical accountability at the entry stage, UMN ensures that students clearly understand their rights and responsibilities, establishing a strong foundation for a positive and principled academic environment.
