Dili, Timor Leste, (November 7, 2025) – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Master’s Program held an exclusive seminar on the UMN master’s program, presented by Dr. Prio Utomo, S.T., MPC, Dean of the UMN Faculty of Business. In addition, prospective students also had the opportunity to receive a presentation by Sorta Yocevina, S.Si., M.I.Kom., as Education Consultant for Graduate and Professional Programs. Not only that, UMN also had the opportunity to inaugurate a collaboration with the Timor-Leste Press Council.
This master’s info session also featured an exclusive seminar by Dr. Prio Utomo, S.T., MPC., Dean of the Faculty of Business and Chair of the Master of Technology Management Study Program, on the theme of “AI For Business Leaders”. This topic is essential because of the rapid technological advancements today, which require humans to continue adapting. In addition, the implementation of AI is currently not only in the field of engineering, but also in various fields, one of which is business. This info session was opened online by Dr. Andrey Andoko, the UMN Rector.
“It is hoped that participants will obtain complete information about master’s studies at UMN. I am sure that many are already familiar with AI (Artificial Intelligence) and its use in everyday life. As we know, many things are affected and disrupted by AI, which is something we cannot avoid. However, on the other hand, AI also provides many new job opportunities,” explained Andrey.
Andrey believes that by honing human skills such as analytical, creative, and innovative thinking, resilience, and agility, humans will surpass AI (Beyond AI). Andrey sees that in the future, humans and AI will coexist, with AI collaborating with humans in many ways, from ideas to economic value. A seminar from Prio followed this activity.
“AI in business, especially in Technology Management, will not discuss technical matters such as coding or programming, but will focus on the use of AI technology in running a business. This emphasis is useful so that we not only know how to use and prompt AI, but also increase business productivity and competitiveness,” Prio explained.
Prio explained that, in short, AI is computer technology designed to mimic human thinking and understand human performance. He also said that AI can replace humans if humans cannot keep up with developments, and that it can only replace repetitive work, because AI itself is created based on human input and output systems.
“Currently, there are many types of AI, not just generative AI. ChatGPT is one of the most well-known generative AI systems based on words and images. In fact, AI has been implemented in many areas, especially in retail, education, and banking. It is used to study human algorithms and collect data from existing algorithms, thereby increasing business productivity and efficiency,” Prio added.
According to Prio, in business, AI can serve as a personal assistant and help with daily tasks. Additionally, in business, AI can assist with marketing, thereby encouraging humans to remain creative. For Prio, as a business leader, it is crucial to understand how current technological advancements are progressing to ensure that the business is not impacted by digital disruption.
“AI may replace jobs in the market, but by choosing the right learning path and developing a desire to continue learning, it will not replace humans. We cannot avoid technological advances, and humans themselves will become smarter than technology if we continue to hone our skills,” Prio added.
This seminar was enriched by an information session that aimed to expand access to UMN master’s programs for prospective international students, especially those from Timor-Leste. Sorta explained that he saw considerable potential, interest, and enthusiasm among professional graduates to pursue higher studies.
“With this information session, we want to show UMN’s commitment to reaching out to the best talents from Timor-Leste. In addition, it also strengthens the educational and cultural network between Indonesia and Timor-Leste. With exclusive seminars and information sessions, prospective students know that UMN not only offers degrees but also a commitment to contribute to the practical development of professionals and future leaders in Timor-Leste,” explained Sorta Yocevina, S.Si., M.I.Kom., Education Consultant for Graduate and Professional Programs.
