Mangroves for Clean Water: UMN & MMU’s Campus-Outside Impact
November 15, 2024Contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can take many forms, and real impact often comes from being part of the global mechanisms that measure and accelerate progress. Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) is doing just that by actively engaging in international platforms that promote sustainability in higher education. One clear example is its participation in UI GreenMetric, where UMN earned a global ranking of 128. This isn’t just a number; it reflects initiatives, policies, and practices that support sustainability on campus, while also feeding into a broader global dataset that tracks universities’ contributions to the SDGs.

UMN’s involvement also extends to high-level global dialogues. In 2024, the Rector, Andrey Andoko (who at the time served as Vice Rector II for General Administration and Finance) and the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Friska Natalia, represented UMN at the QS Higher Ed Summit: Asia Pacific in Macau, a major forum where leaders across the region come together to shape the future of higher education. By engaging in these discussions, UMN ensures its voice is part of the regional and global movement toward education that is inclusive, future-oriented, and aligned with sustainable development goals.
Further reinforcing this commitment, UMN will take part in the Global Sustainable Development Congress, a gathering that will bring together decision-makers and institutions to explore solutions and drive action on the SDGs. The congress will also mark the announcement of the THE Impact Rankings, a global measure of how universities contribute to sustainable development. UMN’s presence in these spaces signals more than participation; it reflects real, measurable involvement in shaping a sustainable future on a global scale.
