UMN Hosts Global Entrepreneurship Education Meeting 2025

Tangerang, (10/22/2025)—Universitas Multimedia Nusantara will again host the Global Entrepreneurship Education Meeting (GEEM) 2025. This event is organized by Sociopreneurship Indonesia and supported by UNESCO EE-Net. It will be held on October 21-24, 2025. Delegations from 20 countries attended the event.

With the theme “Connected by Purpose: Advancing Entrepreneurship through Global Collaboration,” GEEM 2025 aims to strengthen global collaboration in developing entrepreneurship education relevant to the times’ challenges. Through this event, educators, researchers, policymakers, governments, and industry players from various countries are encouraged to collaborate to design entrepreneurial education innovations oriented towards social impact and sustainability.

“GEEM 2025 is not merely a forum for discussion and entrepreneurship, but this activity is also aimed at fostering and taking responsibility for a more sustainable world. This activity is proof that entrepreneurs are born from community and learning,” Dr. Dessy Aliandrina, Founder & Executive Director of Sociopreneurship Indonesia, said at the opening of GEEM 2025.

Dessy revealed that this year’s theme invites all parties to view entrepreneurship not merely as buying and selling, but also from various perspectives, such as learning, creativity, and adapting to new things. Through this event, Dessy wants to encourage the creation of entrepreneurs who are not only good but also provide innovation and solve existing problems.

“I hope this activity can continue to grow in the future, and produce meaningful collaborations so that we can all continue to be connected with the same goal,” Dessy concluded.

GEEM 2025 was attended by various participants, ranging from academics to entrepreneurs to government officials. It was attended by 20 countries, including the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, China, Pakistan, Brunei Darussalam, Timor-Leste, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Germany, Sweden, Korea, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Singapore, Morocco, and Hong Kong.

On Tuesday (10/21/2025), GEEM 2025 activities opened with a pre-meeting to introduce GEEM and the participants. Three workshops were available, including the “Cultivating Hope: Entrepreneurial Agility” Workshop, the “Sustainability-Driven Entrepreneurship: A Pathway to SDGs Integration in Education” Workshop, and the “Climate Fresk” Workshop.

On Wednesday (10/22/2025), GEEM 2025 continued with its main agenda, which consisted of five Panel Sessions held on October 22-24 at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara and Episode Hotel, Gading Serpong. There were various GEEM 2025 activities focused on entrepreneurial education to support a sustainable future and impact the circular green economy.

The first panel session was presented by Sheila Dingcong as Executive Director for External Affairs of Thames International Business School, Vice-Chair of UNESCO EE-Net of the Philippines, Dr. Dessy Aliandrina as Founder & Executive Director of Sociopreneurship Indonesia, Head of UNESCO EE-Net of Indonesia, Nik Kafka as Founder & CEO of Teach a Man to Fish, and moderated by Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, S.T., M.Sc., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics at UMN, Subject Matter Expert of Sociopreneur Indonesia on Science.

The first panel discussed “The Role of Entrepreneurship Education in Strengthening the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem.” The panellists shared their views on the importance of instilling entrepreneurial values from an early age, as seen in three different countries.

Niki concluded that teaching children about entrepreneurship early and equipping them with entrepreneurial knowledge from the outset is essential in shaping an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem.

“Through this approach, we can build a strong entrepreneurial mindset from the start, especially by involving collaboration between industry and government. Entrepreneurship education for the younger generation must go beyond theory and emphasize the importance of data-driven practices and collaboration so that they are able to create sustainable solutions,” said Niki.

Niki also emphasized that entrepreneurship education and training must be implemented beyond theory alone. Niki also mentioned the tangible impacts of entrepreneurship, which come from experience, collaboration, and real data. With quality education, technological improvements, transparency, and cooperation, we can prepare the future generation with skills that support sustainability.

On the same day, various other panel sessions explored different topics, namely “Stories of Inclusive Learning to Breaking Down Walls,” “Harnessing Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development and Entrepreneurial Growth,” “Beyond Silos to Redefine Success on Entrepreneurship Education,” and “Emerging Topics for the Future Entrepreneurship Education.”

On Thursday (10/23/2025), GEEM 2025 continued with another panel session discussing the importance of entrepreneurship education. The second panel session was held at Episode Hotel, Gading Serpong. Topics included “The Education Dividend: Unlocking Economic and Social Potential,” “Translating Academic Research into Entrepreneurship Education Practice,” “Entrepreneurship Education Network (EE-Net): Connected by Purpose to Catalyst the Change,” and “Stories of Purpose and Progress in Entrepreneurship Education.”

The event was further enriched by the Impact Junction session titled “From Ideas to Impact by Connecting the Dots.” GEEM 2025 participants were facilitated for 90 minutes to discuss and collaborate on existing issues, resulting in a joint work plan. This session aimed to help participants build mutual commitment and form a more concrete program. At the end of the session, participants presented the program objectives, implementation methods, and who would be collaborating in the future.

This activity was not merely a discussion and dialogue but a tangible form of cooperation between countries and stakeholders in supporting sustainability and inclusiveness. GEEM 2025 also supports six points of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs 4 (Quality Education), SDGs 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequality), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals). This activity aligns with UMN’s vision, which supports sustainable social, economic, and environmental development.

“Entrepreneurship is the ‘heart’ needed by developing countries because it creates new jobs, turns problems into new opportunities, and increases competitive value, especially in today’s highly advanced and fast-paced technological era. Entrepreneurship is important; we cannot educate only through capital entrepreneurship but also creativity and good skills,” said Dr. Andrey Andoko, Rector of UMN, at GEEM 2025.

Andrey also emphasized that entrepreneurship can be developed and imparted during learning, which is vital. Of course, as academics, we must be willing to learn and become agents of change that will positively impact the university and globally.

“This activity is in line with UMN. We continue to encourage and produce graduates with good character and an entrepreneurial spirit. To equip students with entrepreneurial knowledge, we incorporate entrepreneurial knowledge into our learning process. We hope that students will not look for work but create new jobs. Of course, this is not easy, so we provide students with the Skystar Ventures business incubator,” Andrey added.

For Andrey, Indonesia still needs to develop more businesses to support its advancement as a developed nation. Andrey emphasized that the GEEM 2025 event benefits professionals, businesspeople, and academics. It is hoped that participating countries can discuss, collaborate, and find impactful and sustainable solutions through this event.
