Tangerang—On Wednesday (August 6, 2025), Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) welcomed a visit from Professor Jae-Mo Koo, Ph.D., Head Professor of the Cinematography Department at the Graduate School of Korea University of Media Arts (KUMA). This visit will last one week at UMN. Beyond implementing UMN’s collaboration initiatives, this visit aims to expand and establish sustainable collaboration between UMN and KUMA.
UMN has previously engaged in various collaborations with KUMA, and this time, UMN and KUMA are jointly organizing a Visiting Professor program. This is not just a routine visit; various activities include seminars, sharing sessions, guest lectures, and other events.
“This program is expected to continue and expand the scope of collaboration in the future. Other collaborations that can be pursued include joint-degree programs with UMN’s Film and DKV programs and joint research between students and faculty members. For me, this is a step that can be taken together and bring UMN and KUMA into the global arena,” Prof. Dr. Friska Natalia, S.Kom., M.T., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Internationalization, said.
Friska is also open to KUMA joining UMN programs such as IMOVICCON or DKV art exhibitions. This collaboration is hoped to enrich research and artistic outcomes from both UMN and KUMA. Friska also hopes that UMN faculty members can serve as visiting professors at KUMA.
“This is not my first time at UMN, but this time I have the opportunity to be a visiting professor. UMN has various excellent programs, not just student exchange but also other programs. Considering that KUMA is currently moving toward internationalization, I hope we can progress and develop together with UMN. This visiting professor program is new at KUMA, and I hope future collaborations can expand further,” Koo said.
Koo also mentioned that other collaborations, such as joint research between students and faculty members, are possible. Additionally, joint degree programs could be a good opportunity for cooperation, and it is hoped that such programs can be implemented together with UMN while aligning the curriculum.
“There are many opportunities that can be pursued together. KUMA itself is open to joining existing programs at UMN. I hope this collaboration can continue and strengthen the relationship between UMN and KUMA, not only among students but also among the academic community at UMN,” Koo added.
