December 13, 2024Tracking the Gender Graduation Likelihood
The university’s continuous tracking of completion rates provides crucial insight into the likelihood of success for different groups. The clear data shows that the strong performance by women is driving the overall completion success. While the goal is to maintain this high standard, the institution recognizes that targeted efforts must now focus on lifting the on-time graduation rate for male students to achieve genuine gender parity in timelycompletion. Furthermore, the overall Average Study Period for all graduates stands at 4.14 years. By addressing the gender gap in on-time graduation and improving the average study period for all students, UMN demonstrates its commitment to fostering academic environments that support success across the board.

Institutional Schemes to Ensure Equality and Close Gaps
UMN has implemented a robust policy framework, formalised in the Rector’s Decree concerning the Implementation of Inclusivity Values, as its core scheme to guarantee an equitable environment for all. This decree explicitly affirms that all education and services are provided equally to the entire academic community—students, staff, and lecturers—without any discrimination based on gender.
Policy and Support for the Academic Community
To ensure this commitment is fully embedded, the policy guarantees equal opportunities for all job applicants regardless of gender or marital status during the recruitment process. Furthermore, this policy acts as a key progress measure by mandating provisions that support the academic community, such as maternity leave and miscarriage leave for female academics, and parental leave for male academics. These supportive measures are vital in mitigating non-academic factors that could lead to delays or non-completion, thus actively striving to close any professional and academic gaps for all members.
Monitoring Academic Progress and Outcomes
In addition to the non-discriminatory policies, UMN employs a proactive Early Warning System to monitor student progress and ensure timely graduation. This system is managed through an academic dashboard that tracks the performance of all students without distinction based on gender.
The university’s core concern is to ensure students graduate on time and to actively reduce the drop-out (DO) rate. To achieve this, every student is assigned an academic advisor who provides close monitoring and personalised guidance throughout their studies. This continuous tracking and direct mentorship are critical mechanisms to identify and address any potential academic hurdles early on.
By actively measuring student outcomes and enforcing clear, non-discriminatory policies, UMN strives to create an inclusive and equitable campus, ensuring all members of its community can thrive and achieve their academic and professional goals.
