Jakarta, June 2025 – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) engaged in strategic dialogue with the UNESCO Regional Office in Jakarta to strengthen their shared commitment to advancing education, sustainability, and youth development in Southeast Asia. This meeting builds on previous collaboration between the two institutions in disaster preparedness, freedom of expression, and inclusive innovation.
In his opening remarks, UMN Rector, Dr. Andrey Andoko, stated that UMN aims to expand collaboration that enables faculty and students to contribute meaningfully to UNESCO programs.
“We are here to discuss further how we can support one another. We also want to learn about UNESCO programs that we can support, both through faculty and students,” Dr. Andrey said.
Ms. Maki Katsuno-Hayashikawa, Director and Representative of the UNESCO Regional Office in Jakarta and Liaison to ASEAN, welcomed the UMN delegation and emphasized the importance of building long-term partnerships with educational institutions that share values and visions aligned with UNESCO.

“It is an honor to receive a visit from such a dynamic university,” Ms. Katsuno-Hayashikawa said. “We see a strong alignment of values—UMN students not only understand sustainability issues but also put them into practice and encourage others to join in. We look forward to closer collaboration in the future and UMN’s active role in supporting our shared goals.”
During the meeting, UMN presented various sustainability initiatives integrated across sectors through its newly established Center for Sustainability. This center promotes the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the curriculum, research, campus operations, and community engagement. UMN also emphasized the importance of developing green skills and sustainable leadership for local and regional impact.
Discussions explored future collaboration opportunities, such as student participation in UNESCO-designated biosphere sites and geoparks, public communication campaigns related to artificial intelligence and digital rights, and student involvement in creative entrepreneurship programs. Regional-scale collaboration was also discussed, particularly among universities in the ASEAN region.
This visit reaffirms UMN’s position as a higher education institution that aligns with UNESCO’s global vision and actively contributes to shaping a resilient, critical, and sustainability-oriented generation.
