UMN Visit to UNESCO (Doc. UMN)
Jakarta, June 2025 – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) engaged in a strategic dialogue with the UNESCO Regional Office in Jakarta, reaffirming a shared commitment to advancing education, sustainability, and youth development in Southeast Asia. The meeting builds upon ongoing collaboration between the two institutions in areas such as disaster preparedness, freedom of expression, and inclusive innovation.
In his remarks, Dr. Andrey Andoko, Rector of UMN, emphasized the university’s intention to explore deeper and broader engagements with UNESCO, particularly in enabling faculty and students to contribute meaningfully to global initiatives.
“We are coming here to discuss further about how we can support each other. We want to know as well about the activities from UNESCO that we can support either from the lecturers or also from the students,” said Dr. Andrey.
Ms. Maki Katsuno-Hayashikawa, Director and Representative of the UNESCO Regional Office in Jakarta and Liaison to ASEAN, welcomed the UMN delegation. She welcomed the visit and highlighted the importance of building long-term academic partnerships with institutions that share UNESCO’s values.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome such a dynamic university to our office,” said Ms. Katsuno-Hayashikawa. “We see clear alignment in values—your students are not only aware of sustainability, they are living it and promoting it. We look forward to further collaboration and to seeing UMN play an active role in advancing our shared goals.”
During the meeting, UMN presented its integrated sustainability efforts through its newly established Center for Sustainability, which promotes SDG alignment across curriculum, research, operations, and community engagement. The university emphasized its focus on fostering green skills and sustainability-oriented leadership for both local and regional impact.
The dialogue explored various avenues for expanded collaboration, including student involvement in UNESCO-designated biosphere reserves and geoparks, public communication campaigns on AI and digital rights, and student engagement in creative entrepreneurship initiatives. Opportunities for ASEAN-level academic partnerships and community-based learning programs were also discussed.
This engagement reinforces UMN’s role as a university that not only shares UNESCO’s global vision, but also actively contributes to shaping resilient, informed, and sustainability-driven generations.
