Tangerang – On Monday, May 19, 2025, the UMN Rectorate and UMN Student Development held an open discussion for UMN students. This rectorate discussion was open to all UMN students. Attended by the entire rectorate, the event.
This year’s UMN Rectorate discussion session focused on the theme “United in Progress, Thriving Together.” The event was not merely a discussion but also a demonstration of UMN’s commitment to listening to and valuing student feedback. By hosting such talks, UMN aims to continuously improve and evolve over time.
“The warm discussion is a routine activity and a commitment by the rectorate to hear the aspirations and concerns of students, as students are the primary stakeholders of UMN. By listening to students’ aspirations, we can continue to improve and enhance the quality of education at UMN,” Dr. Andrey Andoko, UMN Rector, said.
For Andrey, holding these informal discussions is about listening to students’ aspirations and feedback and fostering two-way communication so that students can learn about the latest developments at UMN, whether regarding academic programs, faculty members, or the institution itself.
“Students should know that UMN enhances many international programs by increasing collaborations with reputable international partners. These programs are diverse, including student mobility or exchange programs,” Andrey said.
Andrey hopes that UMN can work with students to achieve the same goals, as this will undoubtedly benefit students and bring honor to the university.
“Academically, we collaborate extensively with companies, and most importantly, we do not just sit idly by but seek feedback from alumni. We always update and follow industry developments related to the curriculum. Of course, these updates are applied to the student curriculum,” Dr. Ika Yanuarti, S.E., M.S.F, CSA., Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, said.
Ika added that UMN continues to develop and does not stagnate after students graduate. Ika wants UMN students to have a good rate of being accepted as workers in the industry. This is evidenced by the fact that many students have already been absorbed into the industry within six months.
“Regarding learning at UMN, we certainly do not want to burden students. We provide a handbook on the website for each study program. Additionally, we provide academic advisors for students and mass guidance for each study program,” Prof. Dr. Friska Natalia, S.Kom., M.T., Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Internationalization, said.
Friska also mentioned that in the learning process and facilities, students are expected to feel comfortable both in the classroom and the lab. Furthermore, in the learning process, UMN offers regular classes and facilitates students with general classes by inviting experts in their fields to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding.
“Regarding research and development, UMN has established the Research, Innovation, and Sustainability (RIS) unit. Students who wish to submit research proposals or conduct research can directly submit them to RIS,” Prof. Dr. Florentina Kurniasari T., S.Sos., M.B.A., Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Sustainability, said.
Sari herself is open to students who wish to research relevant topics with faculty members. This is aimed at enhancing research and improving learning at UMN. The research outcomes are expected to impact the environment and society positively.
“We, on behalf of UMN, are delighted to meet directly with students to hear their aspirations, complaints, and feedback. We can immediately address existing shortcomings and implement sustainable improvements through this activity,” Andrey said.
Andrey hopes that the rector and UMN students can establish a strong relationship and provide the best for the students. Through this initiative, students wish to find it easier to voice their concerns, aspirations, and feedback.
“UMN is our shared home; let us build this home into a place that supports your journey toward the future,” Andrey concluded.
