Tangerang, (19/12/2025) – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara has recorded its latest ranking in UI GreenMetric. Previously ranked 128th globally, UMN has now successfully climbed to 126th in the world. As an active university, this achievement is clear evidence of UMN’s consistent commitment in sustainability since its inception.
Since UMN’s campus was established, sustainable development and the vision of a green campus have been UMN’s main commitments. UMN has implemented these commitments through building construction, learning, campus management, and UMN’s participation in UI GreenMetric since 2016. On this occasion, UMN was ranked 126th globally out of 1,744 institutions, 5th among private universities in Indonesia, and 1st among PTS in the Greater Jakarta area.
“This time, UMN’s ranking in the UI GreenMetric has improved from 128 to 126 internationally. This is clear evidence of UMN’s consistency and creativity in supporting sustainability, from water and waste management to renewable energy and various new initiatives in the future,” Dr. Andrey Andoko, UMN Rector, said.
Andrey also explained one of the most strategic innovations in implementing sustainability, including applying it across all aspects at UMN, energy conservation, an emphasis on renewable energy, reductions in carbon emissions, and research related to sustainability.
“I hope that with the increase in UMN’s ranking in UI GreenMetric, it can further encourage and increase the awareness of the entire UMN academic community regarding sustainability, so that later this will become a habit and daily practice at UMN,” he added.
Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, S.T., M.Sc., Dean of the Faculty of Informatics Engineering at UMN, was also actively involved in this achievement. For Niki, the ranking is not just a target number, but also a strategic guide for UMN to orient itself towards sustainability with long-term principles.
“UMN maintains and improves its UI GreenMetric ranking through consistent and integrated institutional commitment. All activities at UMN, whether in academics, campus management, research, or community service, are consciously directed to support the six main indicators of UI GreenMetric,” Niki explained.
Niki explained that in the process, UMN has innovated and implemented concrete ideas to support sustainability, namely emphasizing a data-based approach and system development as key innovations in sustainability campus management. This serves to monitor, document, and evaluate all activities and achievements related to the six UI GreenMetric indicators.
“In addition to developing information systems, UMN is also diversifying renewable energy sources, one of which is through the addition of wind power plants (PLTB) to complement the existing energy system. On the academic side, UMN actively encourages innovative research in the field of sustainability, which is not only published in scientific journals but also registered as Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), thereby generating both academic and practical impacts,” Niki said.
Furthermore, Niki also shared various future initiatives that UMN will undertake, starting from maintaining a “sustainability-driven university” culture as part of the institution’s identity. Implementing the results of sustainability research in the campus system, strengthening the integration between research, learning, and campus management, as well as collaboration between units, faculties, and external partners.
“My hope for the future is to build collective support from the entire UMN academic community, including leaders, lecturers, educational staff, students, and partners, to maintain the spirit and commitment to sustainability jointly. With this, UMN can continue to develop as a university that is not only academically excellent but also makes a real contribution to the environment, society, and sustainable development,” Niki concluded.
