Tangerang, (12/11/2025) – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UIMN) recently received a visit from Terbuka University. The discussion covered UI GreenMetric and innovations to support sustainability. This event was attended by the development team and the UI Greenmetric team from Terbuka University.
Currently, the issue of sustainability is not limited to being environmentally friendly by reducing plastic bottles and waste. However, the issue of sustainability has become a broader issue and is also being promoted by universities in Indonesia. UMN itself has implemented sustainability issues in its infrastructure, facilities, and academic and non-academic activities.
“From the beginning, the UMN campus has embraced the concept of green buildings and environmental friendliness. The UMN campus really prioritizes energy efficiency, starting from buildings that follow the direction of the sun for natural lighting without absorbing heat, water conservation, to the green spaces that we utilize,” Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, S.T., M.Sc., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics, said.
Niki also explained how UMN buildings have double facades, allowing air to circulate and reducing the need for excessive air conditioning. For Niki, the UMN campus is not only a place for learning but also a living lab for students. He also emphasized the importance of comfortable open spaces for students to study.
“Of course, we will continue to innovate in various other areas in the future, not only for UI GreenMetric but also as part of our commitment to supporting sustainability. This can be in the form of research, collaboration, and other innovations, such as the use of wind power plants (PLTB). However, with innovations, many things need to be considered,” Niki added.
UMN’s commitment to supporting sustainability can also be proven through its achievement in UI Greenmetric, ranking 128th in the world. In addition, UMN has also become a Net Zero Ready Building in higher education. This discussion was continued by Dr. Vivi Indra Amelia Nst, S.I.P., M.A., as an Expert Staff Member in the Field of Development of the Open University Towards a World-Class University.
“It is a pleasure to have this discussion with UMN. For us, it is not only the ranking that is important, but also the process and governance in supporting sustainability. We need to learn many things, and not only related to sustainability. In my opinion, there are many things that can be explored, starting from UMN’s learning system and curriculum,” Vivi said.
Terbuka University also has a strong commitment to supporting sustainability, and various programs have been implemented to support sustainability. For Vivi, this discussion can further strengthen the relationship between universities in Indonesia and jointly support sustainability through future collaborative innovations.
“I hope that there will be more discussions with UMN in the future, and of course, we are open to various collaborations with UMN. Many activities can be done together with UMN, one of which is community service. Collaboration between universities is important so that we can work together to build a better Indonesia,” Vivi explained.
