Tangerang, (08/11/2025) – Universities are not only places for students to access and develop themselves academically, but also provide humanitarian education to the younger generation. Pekantara (Archipelago Creativity Week) 2025 is an annual event held by UMN, this year taking place from December 8 to 12, 2025. The theme for this year’s event is “Developing Inclusive Young Leaders Character As A Catalyst For Sustainable Communities”.
It is undeniable that technology and social media play an essential role in human life today. On the other hand, with its ease of access, technology is increasingly dominating people’s lives. As a university, UMN has a vital role in preserving and emphasizing cultural and humanitarian values.
“This activity is highly relevant to realizing Indonesia Emas 2045, considering that we are currently facing global transformations, one of which is Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is changing the way we live. AI is not here to replace humans, but to help humans be more productive. AI must be used responsibly, not to harm humans, or AI for Humanity,” UMN Rector Dr. Andrey Andoko said while discussing digital transformation at the opening of Pekantara 2025.
Andrey also emphasized the importance of human skills amid the onslaught of technology, ranging from communication, collaboration, analytical and critical thinking, self-awareness, agility, and empathy. In preparing students, this is Andrey’s step in emphasizing UMN students with the 5C values (Caring, Credible, Competent, Competitive, and Customer Delight) in building leadership character.
“Through Pekantara, this is UMN’s support in addressing the various differences that exist in Indonesia, reducing polarization, and uniting in facing global challenges. Pekantara is an activity to increase awareness into action and creativity into real contributions to society,” he added.

Andrey officially opened the Pekantara event, and Simon Petrus Wenehenubun, S.S., M.M., as the UMN Humanities Study Coordinator, struck a gong. After that, the event continued with a traditional Ofalangga dance performance from Rote Island, East Nusa Tenggara, and a traditional clothing parade. UMN students cheered and enlivened the Pekantara event, and many wore traditional clothing from various regions of the archipelago.
For one week, this event will be enlivened by a series of activities, ranging from a parade of traditional clothing from across the archipelago to competitions to talk shows that raise various topics from different perspectives. The Pekantara event not only fosters a sense of concern for Indonesian culture but is also designed within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Pekantara event is expected to become a space where students can see, feel, and celebrate the archipelago’s diversity. UMN hopes that this spirit can grow into real action in everyday life, strengthening the character of young leaders who are caring and inclusive.
