August 27, 2025Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) actively initiates and participates in cross-sectoral dialogues that address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through conferences, public lectures, and forums, UMN brings together stakeholders from academia, government, NGOs, and industry to discuss innovative solutions to global challenges. These initiatives not only strengthen collaboration but also highlight UMN’s commitment to creating meaningful impact through education, innovation, and sustainability.
Driving the SDGs Through Education and Innovation: Highlights from GEM 2024 at UMN
The Global Entrepreneurship Meeting (GEM) 2024 convened from July 25 to 27 at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, drawing over 130 national and 35 international participants from countries such as the UK, Germany, Brazil, Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, and Pakistan. Co‑organized with UNESCO EE‑Net, Sociopreneur ID, Indonesia’s Ministry of Cooperatives & MSMEs, and Catalyst 2030, the event united government bodies, academia, industry, and NGOs in a shared mission to bolster partnerships in education and social innovation. Speakers like UMN’s Vice Rector for Cooperation, the Executive Director of Sociopreneur Indonesia, and national policy figures addressed how entrepreneurship education can empower future leaders to confront global challenges. Local government representatives also contributed, sharing practices and policies to foster innovation in their regions. Through keynote lectures, panels, and hands‑on workshops on technology, social enterprise, and inclusive economic development, GEM 2024 closely aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Its impact is evident in strengthened multi‑stakeholder networks, heightened awareness among students and professionals of sustainable entrepreneurship, and UMN’s growing role as a regional hub for social innovation and capacity building. Strengthening Institutions through Youth Engagement: Insights from USAID at UMN

The public lecture at UMN featuring Ms. Vera Zakem from the Bureau for Digital Democracy and Human Rights at USAID Washington DC offered a meaningful space for cross-sectoral dialogue around key global issues. Centered on SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and also touching on SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), the event explored the role of youth in defending human rights and strengthening democracy in the digital age. Held at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, the session connected students with insights from an international government agency, encouraging active participation and critical thinking on global challenges. By bringing together voices from academia, government, and civil society, this initiative reflects a clear effort to engage in multi-stakeholder conversations that support the advancement of the SDGs. Lestari Nusantara Forum 2024: Creating Sustainability Design for Our Last Ecosystem
To address urgent environmental challenges, the Lestari Nusantara forum at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara organized the second series of discussions titled “CREATING SUSTAINABILITY DESIGN FOR OUR LAST ECOSYSTEM” on July 10, 2024. The event brought together experts from academia and creative industries, including Singgih S Kartono, founder of Magno & Spedagi, and Muhammad Cahya Mulya Daulay, Dean of UMN’s Faculty of Arts and Design. By facilitating this cross-sectoral dialogue, the forum successfully engaged diverse stakeholders to promote sustainable design practices that align with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly responsible consumption and climate action, proving the value of collaborative conversations in advancing environmental awareness and solutions.
