Tangerang – Two students from Universitas Multimedia Nusantara made it into the top 20 of the Banten Province Language Ambassador 2025 competition. The two students are Richard Wijaya from the Department of Informatics and Irene Claudia Christantri from the Department of Management.
When interviewed by UMN News Service, Richard, one of the finalists, shared that he went through various processes before reaching this stage.
“The selection process I went through included preparing the required documents, attending briefings, training sessions, a language proficiency test, an UKBI test, presenting a written work, undergoing a public interview, a three-language interview, and a public speech,” Richard said on Friday (June 13, 2025).
On the other hand, Irene, another candidate who made it through, shared that she made various preparations to compete.
“I started by delving into relevant language and cultural issues, particularly those covered in Trigatra Bangun Bahasa, which focuses on the use of the Indonesian language, the preservation of regional languages, and mastery of foreign languages. Additionally, I developed and implemented a krida, which is a language-related work program that serves as a tangible contribution from participants to the community. The krida I proposed is titled ‘Kata Menjaga,’ a program focused on using empathetic language to support mental health among teenagers. During the preparation process, I also actively trained my public speaking skills and wrote a popular science article, which is part of the selection process,” she explained.
Both are currently preparing for the next selection round on Sunday (June 22, 2025), the day the Grand Final of the Banten Language Ambassador 2025 will be held.
Beyond sharing their experiences, both also highlighted how the university supported them in competing in the event.
“UMN has been very supportive of me, both in terms of guidance and facilities. I received direct training from professors and professional staff who helped me prepare materials, skills, and presentation abilities. Additionally, UMN provided the space and administrative support that were very helpful in every stage of the selection process. This support made me feel I wasn’t alone and gave me more confidence in representing the university at the provincial level,” Irene said.

Meanwhile, Richard mentioned that UMN provides facilities, motivation, and assistance in the form of material and non-material support.
It is hoped that Richard and Irene’s achievements can serve as a positive example for UMN students to continue creating and challenging themselves to break through boundaries. The support provided by UMN is also part of the university’s ongoing efforts to help develop students’ abilities and encourage their growth.
