As part of its Climate Action Plan, UMN has taken concrete steps to reduce its environmental impact through the installation of solar panels on campus. This initiative directly supports the university’s effort to transition toward cleaner energy sources and reduce dependence on conventional electricity. The installation process involved coordination and official communication with the local government, as required by regulatory procedures, ensuring transparency and alignment with broader energy efficiency standards. This collaboration also supports national efforts to reduce emissions and implement sustainable energy policies at the local level.
In addition to infrastructure-based solutions, UMN is also pursuing certification under the “Net Zero Healthy Building” initiative, further solidifying its commitment to environmentally responsible campus development. This step aligns with both national and global targets to create learning environments that are not only energy-efficient but also supportive of the health and well-being of their occupants. Participation in such certification processes allows UMN to benchmark its performance and contribute to the growing body of best practices in sustainable building management.
missions. This tool serves as an essential starting point in assessing the university’s environmental impact and identifying areas for improvement. Moreover, UMN has engaged in ongoing dialogue with local government representatives to explore how this data can support regional sustainability goals. The university also contributes to public knowledge and capacity-building by participating as a speaker in collaborative workshops with government agencies, promoting shared learning and joint action in response to climate challenges. These engagements reflect the university’s commitment to implementing and sharing its Climate Action Plan with local and regional stakeholders. Several key activities that exemplify this contribution include:

Technical Guidance on Energy Management Implementation in Sulawesi and Maluku
As part of the university’s commitment to climate action and promoting energy efficiency, Mrs. Rahmi Andarini, a lecturer from the Information Systems Study Program, participated as a Workshop Instructor in the Technical Guidance on Energy Management Implementation: Enhancing Energy Efficiency in Sulawesi and Maluku Islands Region. The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and the Institute for Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Management (IREEM). This initiative served as a platform for sharing the university’s climate action strategies while equipping local government institutions with the technical capacity to implement energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction measures.
Technical Guidance in North Sumatra – Energy Management in Government Buildings

(Documentation by IREEM, 2024)
In another effort to disseminate climate action practices, Mrs. Rahmi Andarini served as a Workshop Instructor for the Technical Guidance on the Implementation of Energy Management in Government Buildings in North Sumatra. This workshop, conducted in collaboration with the Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation and IREEM, provided a vital platform for knowledge exchange between the university and local government entities. The event supported regional efforts to adopt more sustainable building management practices while aligning with the university’s climate commitment to share and implement energy-saving strategies at the community level.
