UMN’s Young Researchers Community Engages in Hands-On Social Forestry Program with Local Women Farmers

(Doc. UMN, 2024)
The Young Researchers Community (YRC) of the Faculty of Communication (FIKOM) at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN), in collaboration with LATIN, conducted an immersive learning program on social forestry in Bogor in November 2024. This program involved 20 first-year students from the Journalism and Strategic Communication study programs, along with four faculty members, providing them with hands-on experience in sustainable forest management and community empowerment. Activities included direct observation at the Dramaga Research Forest, group discussions, vision board creation, and learning about herbal forest commodities through traditional tisane brewing with the Asri Griya Wana Karya Permai Women’s Farmers Group.
The program aimed to deepen students’ understanding of social forestry’s role in environmental conservation and community welfare while supporting the local women farmers’ group by promoting their products and knowledge. By facilitating this interactive educational experience, UMN extended learning beyond the classroom to benefit both students and local communities. This initiative contributes to SDG 17 by strengthening partnerships and dedicated outreach educational activities that foster inclusive development and environmental sustainability. Read more here.
UMN Alumni Strengthen Student Activities for Better Learning
Keluarga Alumni Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (KAMI UMN) contributed significantly to strengthening student activities by providing essential inventory items to eight Student Activity Units (UKM) at UMN. This support was officially handed over during a ceremony attended by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Ika Yanuarti, in early 2024. The initiative targeted student organizations within the university, benefiting over 200 active student members engaged in various extracurricular fields such as arts, sports, and academic communities.
