
UMN Journalism Students Win News Craft Competition Held by COMMFEST UMN X IDN Times

Melaka, October 14, 2025 — The CIC 2025 Joint Conference series officially opened today at Multimedia University (MMU), Malacca, Malaysia, marking the start of international academic collaboration that brings together three major conferences:
- COMNEWS
- CONMEDIA
- ICON-SONIC
These three conferences are combined under the umbrella of the CIC 2025 Joint Conference, which has the theme “Empowering a Sustainable Future Through AI and Human–Machine Communication.”
This event serves as a forum for academics, researchers, and practitioners from various countries to discuss innovations, ethical challenges, and opportunities for collaboration in communication, media, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The opening ceremony, which took place at the Persada Permata Dunia Hall Room, MMU Malacca, was attended by Multimedia University President Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Rector Dr. Andrey Andoko, international keynote speakers, and several academic delegates from various universities in the ASEAN region.
“AI is now an integral part of human communication. The challenge lies not only in technology, but also in how to make AI ethical, adaptive, and capable of strengthening human values,” he said.
The first day of the conference included a joint opening ceremony, international keynote speeches, and initial discussion sessions on topics such as AI-driven communication, media innovation, and sustainable digital culture.
The collaborative atmosphere was evident in the interactions between lecturers and researchers from various institutions who began to explore the potential for joint research and academic exchange in the ASEAN region.
The COMNEWS 2025 series will run until October 17, 2025, focusing on three main areas: AI and Communication Ethics, Media Literacy in the Digital Age, and Sustainable Communication Practices.
Through this event, UMN strengthens Indonesia’s role in the global communication research network and affirms the campus’s position as a pioneer in cross-border collaboration in communication and media technology.
