In 2009, he was awarded a master’s scholarship from the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism (ACFJ) to pursue journalism studies at Ateneo de Manila University, Manila, the Philippines.
During his tenure as director of the Institute for Press and Development Studies (LSPP), he was also actively involved as an editor, media researcher, and journalism trainer in a number of professional training programs for journalists across various provinces. He has published journalism guidebooks, including Covering Bureaucratic Reform: A Guide for Journalists (2013) and Teaching Module for Investigative Journalism (2012). His feature reports have been published in several media syndications and anthologies on media and journalism. Some of his research, conducted with other scholars, has been published in academic journals.
Between 2017 and 2018, together with a research team from UMN’s Faculty of Communication, he participated in the collaborative New Beats Project, which examined the impact of digital disruption on journalism. This international research collaboration was initiated by scholars from La Trobe University, Deakin University, the University of Melbourne, Swinburne University, the University of Sydney, and the University of Amsterdam. In 2021, his research article co-authored with UMN colleagues was published in the book Journalism and Job Loss, released by Routledge. The book compiles research articles exploring the impact of digital disruption on journalism and digital media across countries in the Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
