Tangerang – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) signed a cooperation agreement with the professional certification body (lembaga sertifikasi profesi/LSP) Indonesian Architect Certification (Sertifikasi Arsitek Indonesia/SARSI) on Thursday (24/04/2025). The institution was created by the Indonesian Architect Association (IAI) on April 25, 2022. It was designed to participate in government programs related to fostering and developing the competence of experts who are competent, professional, and have integrity with their profession as holders of Architect Professional Certificates.
“Hopefully, in the future, this can accommodate you as architects and facilitate your process later because the architect profession is a legal profession, so you can’t call yourself a bachelor’s (in architecture) or PKS architecture graduate as an architect directly. There are processes that you have to go through,” Chairperson of UMN’s Architect Professional Education Study Program, Irma Desiyana, said in the signing of the UMN and LSP SARSI collaboration on Thursday (24/04/2025).
Irma also said that the collaboration with LSP SARSI itself is part of UMN’s efforts to accommodate and provide a way for Architecture students who really intend to become architects.
“We accommodate and provide a way for you (UMN Architecture students). That’s why one of the ways is that we work with LSP SARSI,” she added.

At the same event, the President and Director of LSP SARSI, Ar. Pierre Albyn Pongai also gave a public lecture on the socialization of LSP SARSI to students and academics who attended.
“We have been living in free trade for quite some time, especially in the field of architecture and its profession. In the professional field, we enter the service trade. So if there are goods or services in free trade, the architect profession is included in trade in services. And trade in services becomes a necessity when a country opens itself to international relations. If we look at the scope of trade in services in the world, then the practice of architects is included in the construction services group,” he said.
In addition to discussing the position of architects’ work in free trade, Albyn also explained the path to architect certification that students must follow if they intend to get certified.
“The educational pathway, the five-year program, which is a Bachelor’s in Architecture plus PPAr (Professional Architect Education Program) for one year or a Master’s for approximately two years, but graduates do not immediately become architects; they need an internship first. After completing the internship, having a portfolio, and then being eligible to take the competency test at the architectural council. Then the architectural council will give an Architect Registration Certificate (Surat Tanda Registrasi Arsitek/STRA),” he explained.
Albyn also mentioned another route to certification, the Recognition of Past Learning (Rekognisi Pembelajaran Lampau/RPL) route.
“So, for those who did not go through the 5-year Architecture major, from any major, even if they did not go to college, they can, as long as they have a portfolio as an architect for 10 years. In the review, they are eligible to take the competency test,” he said again.
Not only that, Albyn also said that if someone already has an STRA, they must extend their STRA every 5 years by following PKB (Continuing Professional Development).
This signing and guest lecture are part of UMN’s efforts to continue accommodating students’ needs, not only for academic purposes but also to prepare them for the world of work.
