August 20, 2025Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) is committed to maintaining high standards of ethical conduct across all levels of the institution. The university provides training and socialization on core ethical values, including diversity, honesty, respect, and fairness, for students, faculty members, and administrative staff to ensure that these principles are understood and applied in daily academic and professional activities.
UMN also has designated bodies responsible for overseeing ethical matters within the institution. The Human Resources department oversees ethical conduct and provides guidance for faculty members and administrative staff. For students, ethical oversight is supported through the Student Ethics Council (Dewan Etik Mahasiswa), which promotes ethical behavior and addresses ethical concerns within the student community.

Designated Officials
- HR Operational Division (Legal): Responsible for receiving and documenting reports of ethical violations from members of the academic community.
- Secretary of the Senate: Receives and reviews reports forwarded by the HR Operational Division (Legal).
- Senate Members: Convene to deliberate and make decisions regarding reported ethical violations.
Types of Violations
- Confidentiality Breaches: Unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information related to the university or its stakeholders.
- Unethical Behavior: Actions such as harassment, discrimination, or other conduct that violates institutional ethical standards.
- Violations of Social and Religious Norms: Conduct that is disrespectful or contrary to the values upheld by the university community.
Sanctions
- Verbal Warning: Issued for minor infractions.
- Written Warning: Formal warning for repeated or more serious violations.
- Suspension: Temporary suspension from duties or activities for serious violations.
- Termination: Dismissal from the institution for the most severe breaches of ethical conduct.
Process for Handling Violations
- Reporting: Violations may be reported to the Human Resources Department, the Chair of the Senate, or the Secretary of the Senate.
- Investigation: An investigation is conducted to collect relevant facts and evidence.
- Review: Designated officials review the findings and assess the case.
- Decision: Appropriate sanctions are determined based on the investigation results.
Suspension Procedures
- Immediate Suspension: May be imposed in cases of serious violations while the investigation is ongoing.
- Notification: The individual concerned will be formally informed of the suspension and its reasons.
- Duration: The suspension remains in effect until the investigation is completed, and a final decision is issued.

Student Ethics Council (Dewan Etik Mahasiswa / DEM): Responsible for receiving and reviewing reports of ethical violations committed by students. DEM supports the Rectorate by providing considerations and recommendations regarding reported violations in accordance with the university’s student code of ethics.

Reporting Mechanism
Students and members of the university community may submit reports of alleged student ethical violations through the official reporting form available on the DEM website.
Reporting Statement
When submitting a report, the reporter must declare that the report is made voluntarily, in full awareness, and without any pressure from any party. The reporter also agrees to comply with the provisions established by the Student Ethics Council of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara.
Role of the Student Ethics Council
- The Student Ethics Council assists the Rectorate in addressing violations of university regulations committed by students.
- DEM reviews the reported case by examining the motivational background of the alleged violation in relation to the UMN Student Code of Ethics.
- DEM provides recommendations and considerations to the Rectorate regarding appropriate consequences for the reported student based on applicable university regulations.
- The final decision regarding sanctions or consequences is determined by the Rectorate and formally issued through a Rector’s Decree.
Process for Handling Student Violations
- Submission of Reports: submitted through the official DEM reporting form on the website.
- Initial Review: DEM reviews the report and determines whether the case can proceed for further examination.
- Hearing Process: The reporter and relevant parties may be invited to attend a hearing conducted by DEM.
- Recommendation: DEM provides recommendations to the Rectorate regarding the case.
- Final Decision: The Rectorate determines the final decision and issues the official ruling.
Reporter Responsibilities
- The reporter understands that the report may or may not proceed depending on the evaluation by DEM and the Rectorate.
- The reporter agrees to attend hearings or meetings if requested by DEM during the investigation process.
- The reporter agrees to submit relevant evidence or recommend witnesses that may support the examination of the case.
- The reporter agrees to respect the investigation process and not take unilateral action against the reported student while the case is under review.
In addition, the Academic Council also acts as the front line in overseeing the implementation of ethical matters, helping to maintain a culture of accountability and transparency. The oversight of ethical matters at UMN is essential for fostering a respectful, fair, and accountable environment. By offering clear reporting channels and a structured process for addressing violations, the university reinforces its commitment to ethical conduct and the core values that define its community.
