Greenship Net Zero Ready certifications that UMN recently achieved (Dok. UMN)
Tangerang, (11/10/2025) – Since the beginning, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara has committed to be one of the universities that cares about sustainability issues. These commitments continue to be carried out through various eco-friendly initiatives and the use of renewable green energy on campus. As a real effort and implementation with sustainability, UMN has gotten Greenship Net Zero Ready Certification from Green Building Council Indonesia. PK Ojong – Jakob Oetama Tower UMN achieved the 1st Certified High-Rise Building for Net Zero Ready In Indonesia.
Greenship Net Zero Ready is one of the certifications that focuses on the readiness of a building’s development to achieve a net zero emission condition. This certificate is given by Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI), for buildings that succeed in achieving stability between carbon emission looking through the energy usage and energy efficieny. This certificate is important to reduce the carbon footprint and support sustainability.
“PK Ojong – Jakob Oetama Tower has successfully fulfilled the energy needs around 11,72% per year. There’s four important points that should be achieved in the Greenship Net Zero Ready namely, energy conservations, renewable energy, health and comfort of the occupants, as well as operational carbon balance”, says Irma Desiyana, S.Ars., M.Arch., as Head Study Program of Program Pendidikan Profesi Arsitektur (PPAr).
Irma stated that the Greenship Net Zero Ready certification reinforces that UMN has become a green and low-carbon campus, in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 7), which focuses on affordable and clean energy. According to Irma, UMN commitment for sustainability can be seen from the PK Ojong – Jakob Oetama Tower that’s already been energy efficient, and also the effort in reducing carbon emission, energy conservation, and the usage of renewable energy through solar panels.
“The challenge in the process of Greenship Net Zero Ready certifications are: The procurement and operation of Solar Power (PLTS) involves complying with various regulations. But after all the process was smooth because of the support given from the executives, building management and also lecturers from Architecture and Physics who complement each other” add Irma.
Irma expects with achievement of Greenship Net Zero Ready certificate UMN will become a leading university in leading and implementing buildings with clean energy and balanced carbon emissions in Indonesia. Not just in education for the student but also the real implementation.
Dr. Eng. Niki Prastomo, S.T., M.Sc., as The Dean Faculty of Technic and Informatics also says that the Greenship Net Zero Ready certifications is important for UMN, since UMN isn’t just a building campus but also a living lab. When the campus infrastructure fulfills the Net Zero Ready standard, students, lecturers, and society could see how sustainability principle is truly implemented and not just class study material.
“Becoming the campus that fulfills the Net Zero Ready standard is a real proof that UMN truly implemented sustainability principles and not just discussed in class. Being Net Zero Ready UMN contributes in reducing carbon emission at educational institutions, and could give an exact example for other universities in Indonesia”, says Niki.
Niki also explains that the construction sector has already given 39% carbon emissions globally, which means Net Zero Ready certifications isn’t just giving a positive impact for the reputations, but also long term efficiency operations. Energy-efficient buildings help reduce electricity costs, extend the lifespan of infrastructure, and provide better thermal comfort for the academic community.
“This certification isn’t just a symbolic achievement, but it should be the basis for transformation of sustainability in UMN. Starting from the development of buildings with Net Zero Energy and Net Zero Carbon concepts through the integration of renewable energy systems, smart energy management, and a circular economy approach in resource management. I hope this certification will serve as a catalyst for cross-disciplinary collaboration on campus, from faculty members to students,” concluded Niki.
