Tangerang – To tackle the urgent issue of clean water scarcity in Jakarta Barat and Utara, a targeted social campaign was developed by Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) students to raise awareness and encourage wiser water use among local residents. The campaign uses free digital and print media that are carefully tailored to the community’s specific needs and behaviors. By highlighting the decline in clean water caused by pollution, over-extraction, and unsustainable practices, the initiative motivates people to reconsider their daily water consumption. Its goal is not only to inform but also to inspire lasting changes in behavior that support sustainable water management.

During the research phase, UMN students conducted interviews with community members and found diverse perspectives on Jakarta’s clean water crisis. Many acknowledged that the problem involves both poor water quality characterized by unpleasant odors, turbidity, and bad taste, and unequal access, especially for low-income groups. Opinions varied on whether Jakarta is truly facing a clean water crisis. Some pointed to pollution, population growth, and irresponsible water use as causes while others saw the core issue as ineffective water management. This range of views highlights an important awareness within the community about the need for better water management. This shared understanding forms a strong foundation for the campaign’s efforts to educate and shift community behavior.
The campaign offers valuable educational opportunities for local communities to learn about good water management through accessible, free resources. By engaging residents with relatable messaging and easy-to-use platforms, it deepens their understanding of the water crisis and encourages practical actions to address it. Ultimately, this initiative advances SDG 6 by promoting sustainable water management and helping ensure the availability and responsible management of water resources for all.
