TANGERANG — Linda Sundoko, a 2022 student from the Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) Informatics Study Program, won the Best Presentation Award at the “Seminar Pembelajaran Sepanjang Hayat (SPSH) 2025 – Lifelong Learning Conference” which was held internationally on October 1-2, 2025.
The SPSH 2025 event was an international paper conference organized by Kolej Komuniti Masjid Tanah under the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. Participants included students, lecturers, and industry professionals. Linda participated online via the Google Meet platform.
“So, this is a paper conference. I attended it online via Google Meet, and my room was filled with students. There, we took turns listening to and presenting the papers we had written,” Linda explained.
The scientific paper she presented was titled “Enhancing Social Media Cybersecurity: Hoax Detection on Facebook via Markov Chain Monte Carlo.” In her research, Linda designed a machine learning (ML)-based hoax detection system using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm, complete with a literature review supporting the design.
She explained that the main motivation behind this research was to help mitigate the spread of hoaxes in Indonesia.
“My hope is, of course, that the problem of hoaxes in Indonesia can be better mitigated. There are actually many ML-based hoax detection systems, but as we can see, their application is still very minimal in Indonesia,” she said.
Linda admitted that she did not expect to win the Best Presentation Award internationally.
“I was a little surprised because my PPT [PowerPoint] was minimalist. My lecturer in Malaysia attended the awarding ceremony. So, he told me about it in a WhatsApp group. I was proud, but also nervous. This is international, after all. Really? That’s how it was,” Linda said.
During the presentation session, Linda also received questions from international judges who responded positively to her research. “The response was positive and, compared to other presenters, I think my questions were quite easy. They also encouraged me for the future and the continuation of my research,” she said.
From a personal experience perspective, Linda believes this conference has taught her valuable lessons. For Linda, Indonesian students’ participation in international academic forums, such as SPSH, has significantly contributed to personal development and the campus’s reputation.
“The contribution certainly provides closure for Indonesia’s name abroad, but also closure for students and lecturers. Of course, it opens up a wider space for international collaboration,” she concluded.
