Tangerang, July 22, 2025 – Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) has held an open senate session for the admission of new students for the 2025/2026 academic year. As part of the UMN New Student Orientation activities, this open senate session marks the beginning of the journey for new UMN students. The open senate session was held at the Function Hall, UMN Campus.
The 2025 open senate session is part of UMN’s new student admission process, which aims to welcome new UMN students officially. Not only does it welcome new UMN students, but it also welcomes exchange students from Korea University of Media Arts, South Korea, and NSUADA, Russia. This year’s open senate session took the theme “Sustainable Future Starts With You: Becoming a Caring and Impactful Student,” which was chosen to emphasize the role of students as agents of change in realizing a sustainable future.
Rector of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, Andrey Andoko (Doc. UMN)
“Today is a historic moment in your long journey to discover your identity, hone your potential, and achieve your dreams. I hope new students can continue honing their human skills by thinking critically, creatively, and innovatively. This is because the rapid development of technology, one of which is Artificial Intelligence (AI), can be disruptive but can also increase human productivity. There is no need to worry about being replaced by AI, because the development of this technology will open up even more job opportunities,” Dr. Ir. Andrey Andoko, M.Sc., Rector of UMN, said at the opening of the 2025 Open Senate Session.
Andrey also advised students to participate in campus activities and collaborate actively. This is so they can produce new things that can positively impact and develop their entrepreneurial spirit. So, in the future, students can come up with new ideas and have an impact on a sustainable economy.
“You must become lifelong learners in facing change without losing your human values, but also upholding the integrity of science, social, environmental, and economic concerns. This aligns with UMN’s commitment to sustainable campus development, starting from academic and non-academic activities. UMN will continue to provide excellent education and a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable learning experience, as well as equip students with the 5C values (Caring, Credible, Competent, Competitive, and Customer Delight),” Andrey added.
The 2025 open senate session also invited one of the speakers, Ananda Karuna Jaya, a 2016 UMN Physics Engineering alumnus. On this occasion, Ananda, who currently works as a Project Manager at PT. Narama Mandiri also presented material related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which, for him, are not only the world’s current targets but also the heart of students.

“Sustainability comes from the word ‘sustain’, which means to maintain or preserve. The first two dimensions of sustainability are the wise preservation of resources and respect for other living beings. This is a pressing issue because there are issues related to climate, waste, and inequality in society today,” Ananda said.
For Ananda, sustainability is using natural and human resources correctly so that there are no long-term conflicts between future generations, using resources wisely without sacrificing the future. Ananda also said that sustainability is the responsibility of all individuals, not just institutions or companies.
“As students, you certainly need to be agents of change and become sustainable students. This needs to start with ourselves first, caring and being aware of ourselves so that we can influence our fellow students to do positive things that will be sustainable,” Ananda added.
Ananda also shared some things from his experience that students can do to become sustainable students, such as joining campus organizations, participating in research and competitions, building long-term relationships, and learning to seek active or passive income.
“My message to new students is to make the most of your four years with good things, be an active student, and also participate in developing UMN’s vision as a green and sustainable campus,” Ananda concluded.
