Workshop Future Feature (Doc. Love Frankie)
Tangerang, 14 June 2025 – Ten students from the Strategic Communication Program at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara participated in the Future Feature program, a collaborative initiative by Love Frankie and Think Policy, held on Saturday, 14 June 2025, at the Borneo Room, 20th Floor, P.K. Ojong–Jacob Oetama Tower, UMN Campus, Tangerang. The program aimed to actively engage university students in exploring the role and impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the future of work, while encouraging their involvement in shaping public policy for the inclusive, ethical, and responsible adoption of AI.
The Future Feature program is designed to provide students with hands-on learning and practical insights into Indonesia’s AI landscape, emphasizing its critical role in shaping AI-related public policy. The event agenda is as follows:
The day begins with participant re-registration and a brief pre-survey, followed by a welcoming session featuring ice-breaking activities and a group photo, hosted by Love Frankie. The formal opening follows, including opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences —Dr. Rismi Juliadi, M.Si. and a keynote presentation on AI and Ethics by Dr. (Cand.) Hendar Putranto, M.Hum.
Next, Google Indonesia takes the stage, with Feliciana Wienathan, Communications Manager at Google presenting a case study on Google Gemini to illustrate the current AI landscape. After a short coffee break, the program continues with a masterclass on AI policy recommendations, led by Nariswari Nurjaman from Think Policy.
Following a lunch break, participants engage in a collaborative group activity focused on preparing pitch decks, once again facilitated by Nariswari Nurjaman.
The highlight of the workshop was the Pitching Session, which served as the culmination of the day’s activities. During this session, student groups presented policy recommendations they had developed based on one of three key themes:
- Literasi AI & Pengembangan Keterampilan (AI Literacy & Skill Development).
- Inklusivitas AI di Dunia Kerja (AI Inclusivity in the Workplace).
- Etika Penggunaan AI (Ethics of AI Use).
The participants were divided into three groups to propose public policy recommendations. Each group was given a maximum of five minutes to present their proposal, followed by up to three minutes for questions and feedback from the judging panel. The pitching panelists for the UMN workshop were Irwan Fakhruddin, S.Sn., M.I.Kom., and Samuel Charis from Think Policy. The judging criteria included relevance to key issues, clarity in problem identification, potential impact of the policy, and feasibility of policy implementation.
One exceptional group from UMN will be selected to represent the campus at the AI Policy Roundtable at the Google Office in Jakarta in August 2025.
The Future Feature program at UMN was supported by key personnel including Juli Binu and Doni Marmer from Love Frankie; Nariswari Nurjaman and Rizky Khairunnisa Al-Hadi from Think Policy; and Feliciana Wienathan from Google.
Dr. Rismi Juliadi, M.Si. stated that the Future Feature Workshop is expected to serve as a momentum for UMN students to actively contribute to understanding and shaping the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in building a more adaptive and sustainable future. The workshop also encourages students to participate in formulating public policies that support the inclusive, ethical, and responsible use of AI.
Meanwhile, Dr. (Cand.) Hendar Putranto, M.Hum., emphasized two key points regarding ethics and AI. First, from an empirical/observational perspective, numerous deepfake cases demonstrate a growing crisis in visual ethics. These technologies manipulate faces, messages, and communication contexts, exploiting the public’s naive trust in visual information. As a result, the ethical foundation of visual communication is increasingly replaced by an illusion of aesthetics. Second, from a reflective/projective standpoint, the development of Artificial Intelligence for Social Good (AI4SG) must be both forward-looking and grounded in ethical reflection. It should incorporate the local wisdom of the Indonesian archipelago (Nusantara) and actively engage students, communities, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) throughout the design, prototyping, and testing phases. This inclusive approach ensures that AI serves as a partner in ethical empowerment rather than a tool for exploiting user data and attention.
Speaking about the collaboration, Juli Binu — Program Coordinator at Love Frankie — shared:
“Our partnership with Universitas Multimedia Nusantara in this program stands as clear evidence that Indonesian students are ready to engage in meaningful discussions about the future of technology and the evolving world of work, especially in relation to AI, with a critical and inclusive mindset. Through this workshop, we aim to empower students to contribute to the development of AI policy recommendations that are inclusive, ethical, and responsible.
We hope this initiative can serve as a bridge between students’ voices and ideas and the policymakers within relevant ministries and government institutions.
We deeply appreciate our collaboration with UMN, which continues to open space for dialogue and meaningful action among the younger generation.”
