Jakarta—UMN continues to expand industry collaboration. On Friday, (09/05/2025) Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) visited L’Oréal. This visit was not only a two-way discussion but also aimed to discuss the upcoming cooperation between UMN and L’Oréal, aimed at UMN students and lecturers.
L’Oréal is a fairly large company engaged in the beauty sector. L’Oréal was established in 1979 and started production in Indonesia in 1986. L’Oréal has a vision to offer innovative cosmetic products for women and men. In addition, L’Oréal is also committed to being a sustainable company.
“L’Oréal has various products ranging from dermatology brands, consumer products, to luxury brands spread across Indonesia. Although we have many products, L’Oréal is committed to Planet, People, and Products. Where we are very concerned about three things, namely beauty, women empowerment, and now the environment,” Irvan Januadi, Sustainability Senior Manager of L’’Oréal, said.
Since the beginning of L’Oréal’s commitment to building a sustainable business, the first step taken by L’Oréal was to ban animal testing. Since then, L’Oréal has continued to develop its products to be more sustainable, such as replacing recycled plastic and achieving zero waste.
“The current step we are taking to reduce waste is to create a refill package, which is quite successful in reducing plastic waste. With this, people can buy the refills without throwing away the original bottle,” Irvan added.
In line with UMN’s focus on sustainability and academically sustainable infrastructure, UMN also focuses on producing graduates who are competent in sustainability.
“We want to increase knowledge about sustainability, and I hope UMN students can be ready for the changes that will exist. The step that UMN takes academically is that students are required to include points from the 17 SDGs, and we are open if L’Oréal wants to take part in matching the curriculum at UMN,” Dr. Andrey Andoko, UMN Rector, said.
In addition, Andrey hopes that UMN and L’Oréal will later conduct extensive research on sustainability topics. Given the industry’s current needs, research and case studies on sustainability are important for the future.
“There are many collaboration opportunities thatUMN and L’Oréal can dol. We can collaborate in the career field as well, so if L’Oréal wants to be involved in career day, campus hiring and also guest lectures for students, I think a lot of students will be very interested in L’Oréal,” said Dr. Ika Yanuarti, S.E., M.S.F, CSA, as Vice Rector for Student Affairs.
Ika hopes this collaboration can be carried out and formalized through an MoU. It is hoped that through this collaboration, UMN can also collaborate with L’Oréal and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
